But let me ask everybody on this forum one thing......... How many of you guys want their kids to visit such pubs or clubs where drugs are sold openly ?????

I have even seen everybody on this forum discussing location to buy a house in Canada, concerned about their surrounding. They want their kids to grow around a sober & clean environment. Now imagine you bought a house in a beautiful surrounding & after 5 years there are around 10 clubs & pubs in your area where drugs are sold openly. What are your options ??????? Ofcource you can sell it & go to a different area quietly & peacefully
.

You are again trying to justify an act which has no defence ......... now you answer me one thing ... if your kid does something wrong ... would you like a stranger to "beat" him or her for it !!!!!!!

No one has an RIGHT to use violence against any other human being !!!!! that is what is in the Indian constitution and that is what is human nature and it is the same in Indian culture !!!

Anyone using violence to futher a point in my view looses the RIGHT to have any say in it ..... period !!!!

Your feeble attempt to connect it to situaiton here is indeed pathetic ... are you trying to say if pubs open in our area, then we all should go to these pubs and start beating the patrons of that place !!!!!!!

coexist peacefully ?

I seriously want you to give a second thought on this one

I am seriously against all this things which Ram Sena or whatever Sena is doing it.

Who told you drugs are being sold in EVERY pub? Whats wrong if somebody wants to go to a pub and have a few drinks after a hard days work or over a weekend, just to chill with the friends. I don't see anything wrong with pubs coming up in any area as long as they ID people before granting them entry and make sure the decorum on the society is maintained.

Talking about the kids, trust me...they will experiment as they grow up. There is little or nothing you can do about it. You will get to know.

I haven't said anytime that drugs are being sold in every pub.

Read Carefully shotgun.... I asked about the pubs where drugs are sold openly.

I guess the whole issue was about drugs sold in those pubs & not about the drinks sold there.

I am yet to read a credible source where it says drugs were being sold in that pub...enlighten me Einstein.

So who thinks the above organizations are doing wrong, I would say they might did wrong but their ultimate goal is to protect Indian culture and Hinduism......there are some bad elements but still if they are not there......Hindus in India will be in minority.......

Interesting. My readings online and in various literature of Indian culture in pre-victorian (pre british and pre muslim rule) is that Indians had a very liberal view towards sex. In fact, after being influenced by european ideas of a few centuries ago, they became more conservative. At the same time, Kama Sutra was translated into other languages and became available in other parts of the world, where "ironically they may have triggered early foundations of the sexual revolution in the west".

India has given the world:
The Kama Shastra/ Sutra
Tantric philosophy - the idea that sex, as a basic and powerful desire experienced by all humans could be used to achieve enlightment.
India's most famous ancient works of art
ex/ temple of khajuraho

You have done one good thing however, reminded us that sex is not a personal issue, it is a political issue. India is a DEMOCRACY.

Ancient Indian women had far more freedom and rights than many women in India today. Those that are emancipated are lucky. There are far more that are suffering even today.

In case you dont know: A democracy is defined as a constitution that guarantees basic personal and political rights. This means:
- basic human rights to every individual
- freedom of opinion
- Religious liberty

So: I agree with you. Protect "Indian and Hindu" culture all you wish. Please revert Indian cultural attitudes back to pre-muslim times where attitudes were not so prudish. Take it back to "Real" hinduism then, if that is what you want:

1) I find a lengha choli/sari etc far more sexy and alluring than miniskirts and cropped tops anyway.

2) Ancient India, particularly in the south, in states like Karnataka it is said that men and women drank (sometimes together, sometimes women in groups).

3) Dancing: Indian culture has a long history of Dancing. If people do not go to dance in clubs/parties, where do you expect them to dance, on the street?

4) Drugs: There is a theory that Aryans brought cannabis (Marijuana if I am not wrong)to India about 4000 years ago. Isnt that what you call 'bhaang'? isnt that available like everywhere in India??

I had no idea that Valentine's day's commercialism and red hearts and candies and teddy bears is such an aphrodesiac that it causes a higher rate of unplanned pregnancies than any other time of year.

Perhaps you may want to approach birth control manufacturers to suggest they make special mini packages for valentine's day to hand out for free at pubs/bars ..imagine the marketing potential !!

Hey - I think this is a very good thread where we have a chance to discuss a very important attitude thats now affecting the lives of people.

Please dont get into name calling. This will ruin the integrity of the entire discussion. Thank you :)

They are not against the local drugs like "Bhang" ... they have issues with the "western" drugs .... they are promoting Indian products

Culture my foot.

There have been dance bars in India long before the pubs.

Drugs? Not indian culture?
" In contrast to the history of hemp in China, cannabis (bhang, ganja) has been widely used in India throughout its history and down to the present day. In the ancient text Artharvaveda, cannabis is described as one of a number of herbs that 'release us from anxiety'. Various psychoactive preparations containing cannabis were sacred to the gods, particularly Shiva and Indra. One of Shiva's epithets was 'Lord of Bhang'. Cannabis has been widely used in the Tantric tradition as an aphrodisiac incorporated into ceremonial practices. Cannabis seems to have been introduced into south-east Asia around the sixteenth century. Since almost all the common terms for the plant have their etymological root in the Sanskrit word ganja (in Laos hemp is kan xa, in Vietnam can xa, in Thailand kancha or kanhcha, and in Cambodia kanhcha), it is clear that it was under Indian influence that cannabis spread into the region. "

If pre-marital sex was the issue then Navratri celebrations should be banned too...as people have mentioned the rate of abortions goes up after the same.

Alcohol? The issue is probably that men feel threatened if women openly consume alcohol.
Its a 'control' issue more than anything else.
