Not to mention that since most of the countries mentioned in the laundry list above depend(ed) on the US Consumer's purchase power, they have followed the US economy "off the cliff" like rats in that pied piper story

I am amused at the raves and rants of some of the Desi's when it comes to beating uncle Sam. The theory about why the US fell off the cliff, is great copy. It is probably a contributing factor too. What is amusing, interesting and even probably bothersome, is the double standards that we have.....
On one end we want to kick uncle SAM where it hurts most (we love it don't we? despite the fact that we make a living here, in the west?). We theorize that if the US did not depend so much on the world economy to import stuff, we wouldn't have had a meltdown here. Then we have the same desi's and stalwarts like P.Chidambaram who will cry foul when America cuts its imports!!! The we rant that the US has become protectionists......
have you ever thought what might happen when the US stops imports and starts manufacture here? Think of all the stuff WE Indians export to the US, forget the rest.
Let's go by the real facts, not opionions... This is a excerpt from a US State department page.......................
.\\\"The United States is India's largest trading partner. Bilateral merchandise trade in 2007 was $41.6 billion. Principal U.S. exports are diagnostic or lab reagents, aircraft and parts, advanced machinery, cotton, fertilizers, ferrous waste/scrap metal, and computer hardware. Major U.S. imports from India include textiles and ready-made garments, Internet-enabled services, agricultural and related products, gems and jewelry, leather products, and chemicals.
The rapidly growing software sector is boosting service exports and modernizing India's economy. Software exports crossed $28 billion in FY 2006-2007, while business process outsourcing (BPO) revenues hit $8.3 billion in 2006-2007. Personal computer penetration is 14 per 1,000 persons. The cellular/mobile market surged to 140 million subscribers by November 2006. The country has 54 million cable TV customers.\\\"
Honestly, I would like to see a day when all the jobs come back here. This may not happen, but I want the H-1B program scrapped. I want everything read \"Made in USA, rather than China, India or Brazil. I
But what would happen in such a scenario? How many jobs in India would be lost, and how many firms would go bust? How many Indians would go hungry? How many Indians would lose their houses? Of course it would be in the \"crores\", but we will hide like a ostrich in the sand, and say \"nothing happened\".
Then we will have some who will to condemn the US for being mean, cheap and protectionist.... Just one story about how the US should keep it's jobs, and we have Pranab Mukherjee telling everyone why it is bad for the US to be protectionist. He tells the US as to why it needs US, because without us \"LIFE NAHIN CHALEGA\".On the same page, we have NASSCOM telling us how it won't impact India. Now who is speaking the truth?
Now all of this makes a mockery of the scenario, and is not a indicator of a balanced discussion. There are always two sides to a story. If we ignore the other side, either we are ignorant or too biased to be balanced. Do we want to sound silly and biased or balanced and educated?
