_____________________________________________________________

Days of large families, long holidays and long distance travels and sight seeing and roughing it out in the wilderness are slowly winding down, because:

The price of gas and the mileage these gas guzzlers provide are horrendous.
The initial cost of one of these RV's with all of the amenities and a 'slide out' is just like buying a small 2 BR condo. The RV rentals want to recover all or most of the costs within the year. If they can.

If they give SIX or Eight Kilometers to the Gallon 2km/lit you are lucky. Some are diesel too, might get a little more. It is O.K. in the winter because it keeps you warm. Try using the AC and in the summer you will need TWO AC machines to just keep you from sweating.

I can ramble on. But I will give you a breakdown of the costs here:
The rental for a decent RV will cost 499 for five days. He might throw in the other two. Then the tax on it = $65 on top of it.
They will give you 700 Kms free. See where you can go 300 Kms return(+)
Add the price of fuel, min. three fills = 300 bucks. plus a couple of quarts of oil.
If it has no transmission cooler, (what is that?) it will slow you down awfully.
Are you adding?

Now for some tips.
First try and and drive a VAN. I know you have it.
Then try and drive a long box (VAN) and see if you can handle it at 110km/h
When you feel comfortable and can handle that for a few hours, return it. Cost 30 bucks. The experiment is over. If after you feel comfortable you want to rent an RV, choose your destination and make an attempt at it. That will condition you to the highways and the usage of the side mirrors and the rear view mirror. There are lots of blind spots to get adjusted to.

It takes a lot of adjusting to do. The mental math, the speed the response of these RV's to speed change, and your ability to maneuver smoothly all kick in, all at once. I will tell you, it is an experience I will never forget. I have learned to kick down the monster's gas pedal many a times.

Enjoy it and I am sure you will too and a thrill you will never forget. BTDT.

Then comes all of the other features and pains. One such is hook ups etc., Run on the toilet, having a shower in a closet. (I made a sign to stick on the door, which said "Save Water Shower with a Friend";) Killing bugs and crawlers. The best part of the whole week is eating the BBQ'd chicken and toasted marshmallows.

One more thing. I knew how our ancestors lived a millennium ago and pictured myself in that era. (in fact in 1900's)

Good Luck.

Freddie.

Wow! Now, that is what i call a detailed reply.

1) I have driven 24 foot trucks(while moving houses) and i have a fair idea on the type of manevouring involved. I guess, overtaking is out of question:D

2) I am looking at travelling no farther than 100kms to a nearest campground and spending the night in the jungle. Any good campsites you can recommend?

Thanks again for the detailed reply and you are probably one of the very few desi's who have RV'd.

kind regards,

Sree

They say that they are in your neighborhood:

They normally give you a 15% to 25% discount. Dicker with them over the phone.

Some thing that did not exist before: http://www.sitescanada.com/

You still have a good three months before the fall season and the winterizing. It is a few weeks earlier up north, as the frost sets in there early October. So, plan and get there when the leaves are changing colour. Take a lot of pictures and post a few for us here.

Prepare well. Take odomos, Bug killer sprays and a long lasting flashlight a first aid kit and a Zapper if you happen to have one hanging in the backyard.

Have a nice and great Camping Trip.

Freddie.
