Correct. You cna use other name rather Gandhi. (Jinha or Jaswant !!)
Many people/communities wear dhoti.
I think India has too much history before Gandhi to actually label him the father of the nation. But thats a separate thread.

Try google'ing for these keywords 'Thomas Jafferson jokes, Benjamin Franklin jokes, George Washington jokes, etc.' You will be amazed at the results.
