I disagree on both accounts ... For one the same talent which lies waste and deprecated in India is moulded and honed by the US / other nations .....

There s politics involved in India in not letting talent succeed and a putting others down attitude and bueracracy and corruption at every level due to which research talent is nipped in the bud ....

Its only the motivation and environment to excel provided else where which acts as a mould for success .....

Please watch 'Ek Doctor mi maut ' and you will know what I m saying .....

Also Indians need not be proud of this achievement as despite the roots the person decided to leave (read desert ) India and lives else where .... his achievemnts are by far more American than Indian .......

It would have been an Indian achievement where the person would have decided to return back to India ....

If that is true then why it does not work for original American peoples. Most of the scientists who succeed in US came from other part of the world (Indians, Russians and other Europeans). So u should have something in ur head to prove. Environment alone cannot do anything.

U r forgetting that it is not Indian committee (Rather Norwegian committee) who decides who deserves the Nobel prize. So the question of corruption/bureaucracy in India does not arise.

Do research and u will see why Mahatma Gandhi was not given the prize despite being nominated 5 times.

That s America's win if they are able to attract the best talent of the world , make it American and then develop it towards excellence .... Its other countries' loss that they cannot retain this talent due to their own environment .

No big deal of other countries having brains ... Its proportions of population .... but the best part is to get the best brains from around the world and get them to work for you / provide them the environment to excel ....

Indian environment (corruption bueracracy included ) does not allow best brains to succeed ... This is a well known & several times lamented fact .... You must watch the above quoted flick starring Pankaj Kapur ..

Regarding Mahatama Gandhi , I feel that he is way ahead of any Prizes ..... he s in fact proved that achievements are not geographic in nature .....

One more thing --- if you are trying to say that the Nobel Prize is rigged / politically awarded , then why be proud of it ... since its going to go to an American .....

If you are saying that its not politically elected then why did it not go to an Indian despite an abundance of 'brains ' ....

Either ways its gone to an American ...... a person who termed his birth an accident and made it to better grounds and prefers being called an American ...

All I m trying to say is ... all in all its an American achievement , if as Indians we wish to take credit for it / piggy back on the achiever ..... think again , learn the difference and get an Indian , next time to win .

Personally , I would be more proud of the likes of Mr Narayan Murthy and countless other Indians who have brought India to be a major global player then Mr Venki Nobel Peace Prize Winner ....

No matter what u say, giving prize to Obama proved how things are manipulated.
It is an easy escape to say that Mahatama Gandhi was way ahead of any prizes.

If things are manipulated , then why care for the Nobel Prize ?

Do you think you would have more respect for the Mahatama if he had won a Nobel Prize ? .... To me that means nothing in front of what he has achieved for the country .

Like the USD, the Nobel prize is itself increasingly getting debased with the involvement of drug companies(last years medicine prize), gender politics , Peace Prize for the messiah etc .
