I am new immigrant and in search of family doctor for myself and my children. I am looking for a highly recommended female family physician, in Dixon/kipling/Islington intersection who is taking new patients. Any suggestions?
Initially I took Healthconnect.ca help and they sent me letter of a male doctor inspite of my asking lady doctor. when I checked with canes clinic, they said they have lady doctor who will take patients from oct, so I waited, now they are telling at present she is not taking maybe next month. I called atleast 10-15 doctors and checked all walk in clinic, no luck. they are not taking new patients.
any advise would be appreciated.

Not sure if this helps .. but I observed a 'Taking new patients ' board on Islington Dixon .... the name sounded Bosnian lady ...

Based on your location and what sort of doctor you want , you will be able to find out if they are accepting new patients or not. All the contact info is also there for you to call before you go the the doctors office.

should I opt for Indian lady doctor only? I have case history of tumour operation on vascular vein (Haemengioma) due to which I had haemorrhage. I was lucky to be saved after losing 2-3 ltres of blood since I was only 21 at that time.
It is difficult to get Indian doctors. can I go to nearest walk in clinic in case of some emergency? Is it absolutely necessary to have family doctor? If I don't get appointment with family doctors then where should I go in case of emergency? Can I have one doctor for whole family? or should I book my children with paediatrician?

You can go to nearest walk in clinic if it is minor or hospital's emergency room if it is more serious like blood loss. There are thousands in Kitchener-Waterloo area who do not have a family doctor because there is hardly any family doctor accepting in new patients. Even if you have a family doctor, he/she may not be able to see you right away.
It is good to have a family doctor since he/she will keep all your records of visits, medications, lab results, referrals, and examinations and you are following up with a single doctor who knows your history. Walk in clinic generally do not keep very good records and will refer you to your family physician for followup.

This is the reality in Canada. As more and more immigrants come, the doctors are not rising as per the immigrant intake and the explosion of population.
Keep yourself in good health and pray that you will not need to visit the doctor for ailments as you are left with no choice other than walk in's or emergency. When I was in that area in 2002-2007, I often used to wait for 5-6 hours in the emergency before the doctor could see me. It is a joke to see how the emergency ward is staffed by one doctor.

Personally you can opt for any doctor. I donot see many clever Indian doctors here (they have been kept out by the rules of this great nation making it practically impossible for large numbers of Indians to practice as in the UK or USA). If a peaditrican will enroll your children in his care, then he will act as a family doctor for atleast your children.
You can talk to your local MP or MPP. Get an appointment and talk to them. tell them that you were fooled into immigrating to this country by the false advertisments of the govt (we need immigration as all our seniors are retiring with it being hard to fill their jobs, 1 million jobs to be filled by 2010 etc...) and the immigration brokers that the govt. is allowing to fasley propogate immigration and take large broker fees to apply for you to immigrate. if Possible try to cry before them. MP's and MPP's have a great authority and contacts and they can usually find family doctors for you if you can convince them.
