There is no need to carry old indian passport (though you can for just in case scenarios) but you MUST carry the passport on which OCI is stamped.

CGI Toronto has this message displayed very prominently now http://www.cgitoronto.ca/ovrseasreg/overseasreghome.htm

Looks like this guy has written articles to many newspapers, websites, etc., though it was his own fault not to carry proper documents.

Rule is rule and immigration officials just follow the rules.

This is guy is not raising his voice but finding it hard to accept that it was his own mistake. Why can't he say that it was his mistake.

If you want, you can get the OCI "U" visa sticker transferred to new passport.

OCI Card in itself is not a visa, it is called "Certificate of Registration." The visa is what is stamped on your passport.

Exactly !!! Transfer the sticker in New one and you'll be fine. You gotta pay some $$$ to transfer. If you want to save some you carry old passport.

It is another story that this could have been avoided - but there must be a reason which we dont know.

Because it is far easier to blame something or someone else.

People carry half their house in the form of baggage when they travel to India, yet find it an "inconvenience" to carry an extra passport that, after all, has a visa on it.

This guy then goes out writing an article with flawed statements such as, "Why would a citizen need a visa to enter his own country? I thought I had a dual citizenship for both the US and India -- otherwise, what is the difference between an ordinary foreigner and an OCI Card holder?"

Maybe, the professor would benefit if he knew what an OCI is not - it is certainly not a dual citizenship and he is not an Indian citizen.

Mr.Prof says, "When we have the OCI Card with us, what is the need for another visa in the passport, creating all these confusion?"

But in my opinion, this is not "another visa". It is a related visa that complements the OCI card.

"People carry half their house in the form of baggage when they travel to India....."

ROTFL. So true. Reminds me when many desis refused to rewind the rental VHS from the desi store saying that they did not have time to do after watching 2.5 hrs of a movie. But they would rewind VHS rented from the Blockbuster.

The Prof has a giant ego, that he is a prof emiratus, etc. No one cares in the airport in India what he is. He refused to follow the procedure.

Not intending to digress...but, in my opinion, most full time faculty (with very very little exception) appear to have a bloated ego (regardless of their race, gender, ethnicity, etc). The ones that are down to earth are the adjuncts (part timers who actually know of life outside of academia).
