Hi all,
I am not very new to this forum. But I believe I am posting for the first time.
I am a chemical engineer and an MBA with exports/imports background. I am likely to be in Canada next year as PR (skilled Cat). I wish to gather some important information if someone can comment. I wish to start a small business after landing while searching for the job in my own profession. I am very good at computer hardware setup, trouble-shooting and maintenance, which are my hobby also and have good experience of the same. I wish to start a small computer hardware maintenance and troubleshooting agency in Canada after landing there and while searching for a suitable job in my own profession, which relates to exports and imports development and follow-up.
QUESTIONS?
I wish to know, if it is possible to start such a business for a newcomer? And how soon one can start such a business? What kind of funds is required for startup? What are the formalities involved in such setups? What is the best place in whole Canada to land up for such a startup? (Any specific city information would be of immense help)?
If you have any other relevant information in this respect please advise?
Thanks n Rgds

Vijesh Bhai,
By any chance, do you have any connection with ASLAM BHAI? .....just kidding!
If you can solve my computer problem, I can provide you all the necessary information. I can guide you how to start, where to advertise, how much capital do you need etc..etc.. But you have to first give me the solution for my system problem
I have posted the problem under technology section and few of our good friends had given me some suggestions but 'no use'. Problem is still there. Lets see what do you suggest?

Hi Sanjeev Bhaji,
I have seen ur tech problem. I seems your sound card is perfectly fine. it was working in win98 . Now that you have upgrade ur system to XP it is not working.
The problem is that you need to install the driver of that sound card again with new OS ie XP. While you purchase ur PC must be having floppys, CD that contain drivers for ur monitor, mouse, network card, motherboard etc.
If not then better get them from the vendor.
Now say for example u have AC97 sound card. Follow the below said steps
Go to device manager
see the list of all the hardware devices
U will see yellow colour <OTHER DEVICES> coloun.
In that I am sure u will find <SOUND CONTROLLER DEVICE>
[Also under the coloun <sound, vedioe devices>
u will see many bunch of them . On seeing thier properties It will list device working properly( These are for other purpose placed on the PCI bus) So do get into the illusion that ur sound device is installed. It is not.
u can see thier hardware veriosn not availble or are in PCI bus]
Now insert ur CD/floppy. In most cases the CD of the motherboard is where u will get ur driver of the sound card too.
Go to te SOUND COTROLLER DEVEICE and click on the install driver button.
Follow the steps , make sure u have that driver CD inserted , WIndows will automaitocally get all the inf,sys etc files & install ur driver.
Later on u will see ur sound card icon placed from the <OTHER DEVICES (sound card controller) to the SOUND,VEDIO DEVICE in the device manager list (this time with the name of ur sound card)
Then Enjoy ur music.

infocan
Dear Sanjeev,
Many thanks for your reply.
Aslam Bhai is my good old friends living in my neighbourhood.
Regarding your PC problem, I suggest you try what infocan has suggested. If nothing works, try this trick...
Open your windows in safe mode. Go to Device Manager. Remove all peripheral drivers like sound, network adaptor, display adopter, Modem etc. and restarts. This way everything will be reloaded afresh. If you remove in normal mode the registry signatures are not removed. When you normally change the OS, it is always recommended that you reload your ealier softwares and drivers afresh. Best is to keep all backup data in one partition of the HDD (say d: drive) and format the (say c: drive) and load afresh from the scratch. This way you are sure your system is clean and also works faster.
Please make sure you use the right driver version of the sound card suitable for XP. Try DriverGuide.com to download the driver . Sometimes on some websites you do get the right drivers but sometime these does not work. See the somments of the people who have already used the Direver for XP for the sound chip in question.
Hope your problem will be solved.

Small Business: Great Idea
I am planning to land in June 2004 and sure not able to get the job as 'I like' at my age but keeping a Business Option open.
I am involved with IT in last 15 years including Support & Hardware assembly. My son also an IT Graduate can help. So what are chances of a small Business provide Hardware & Support. Any other Desi to join hands.
Other Business I am involved is Desi Gents & Ladies Dresses, imported from India & Pakistan. We are running this Business in Abu Dhabi including Tailoring facility. We can add other items like Leathers Goods (Jackets etc) and Handicrafts.
Any chance of establishing above Business on small scale to start with?
Comments or Advice
