I am going to Dubia and India - on the way want to buy a mobile phone (GSM). Any suggestions of what to buy, any thing to be aware of.

Intend to use it in Canada.

I did the same this time. I bought a Samsung B2100. Quad band and a few features. However the big problem here is the SIM card. unlike in India where the SIM is free here it is expensive. I celled FIDO and was quoted $35 for SIM and $35 for activation. Highway robbers!!!!! The phone with the blue tooth device costed me Rs. 5500 ($125). Now to pay this guys $70 to get the phone working is way too much. I am looking for prepaid as my usage is not high. So think about this charges as it may be more economical to buy one in Canada.

Get a AWS compatible Quad band phone..

Wind mobile is giving away sims but the problem is u need a AWS compatible phone, there aren;t that many out there..
