I am planning to visit Dubai for a few days next month, for sightseeing. I am looking for suggestions and tips from CDs who have lived there. I guess veg food and transportation within Dubai is not an issue.

As of 2 years ago,

Veg desi food is not a problem at all.
transportation used to be only taxis (never used the bus and the underground was not functional) - which could be difficult to find.

You could rent a car (a lil toyota eg Yaris) would cost ~USD 20 per day. Petrol was around USD 1.75 per gallon. Parking was ~USD 1.5 for an hour. Finding a free slot was a problem then.

Current status of food unlikely to have changed. Transportation via undergound/bus unknown , but I hear that traffic jams and parking slots are no longer an issue.

p.s Dubai streets don't (didn't ?) have street names so obtain very very clear instructions before you set off.

After having stayed in Canada there is really nothing worth seeing in dubai

Thanks folks.
Is there a map of Dubai that I can get from CAA? Also conversion rate is 3.5 dirhams. I guess Dubai is pretty expensive.

Any good places for veggie eatouts (not expensive)?

My advise to you is go through GulfNews / properties in which you will get accommodation sharing or independent flat. Please stay in sharjah Which will be cheaper to stay near by Ansar Mall / abu Shagara near Holiday Inn (between sharjah and dubai) whereby there are many restaurants like Sarvana bhavan, Aryas, Kamat, Gazebo, Mithai, Chappan Bhog, adiga's Madras Restaurant , Gujarat fast food and Somnath , sagar whereby you can have Palak Paneer and such items say for dhs 8-10 and 2 parathas for dhs 1 for that too hot hot. Masala Dosa etc.. can have for dhs 3.50-6.50. Medhu vada, batata vada, vada pav for 1.50-3.00 dhs. Very close by is prime tower hotel and Holiday Inn hotel where you can stay and order food from these joints or you can get it yourself hot in 10-15 mts time since its 5-10 mts walk or better you can go and have food in hotel and stay in these hotels. The hotel charges per day dhs.500-800.

For commuting from Sharjah to Dubai is half an hour to 1 hour during peak hour and 15-20 during afternoon and evening. So once again go through Gulf News / classified and book car lift or you can commute by public a/ c transport which charges dhs 5/- one way to dbai from sharjah.

You will get cheap single room sharing with Indian families whereby you can get cooking facilities just for 1000-1500 dhs per month or look out for independent furnished flat which is available for 2500-3000 dhs pm. Search for furnished small hotels charging dhs 150-200 per day without food in sharjah.

Dubai is very expensive. A furnished flat will dhs.8000 to 10000 per month.

I hope this helps little bit.

Gopalai were you living in dubai ? taxi no longer costs 5 dhs to dubai ...lol :)infact there is a 20 dhs surcgharge on top of the meter fare to go anywhere in dubai :)

My advice to anyone visting Dubai is to live in Dubai itself...hotels are not as exp after the recession ...

Sharjah has maddenning traffic and is very dry ;)

Enjoy you stay !
