4. After the above and 3-4 years' of solid experience, you can now go ahead and enroll in any part-time executive MBA from a top rung University. DO NOT leave your job, so as to receive a regular paychecks. I know it will be difficult for you first to manage your education while work, but is this not why you have enrolled in the MBA. One of the key aspect is time management and hard work.

hink about the above 6 points (in order), and I am sure they will help.

Part time Executive MBA's are for people with 10+ years experience. 3-4 years not enough. Regular part time is probably what you meant.

Very good discussion and suggestions here.

However, for a CA from India, it is better to do CPA while he/she is OUT OF CANADA and then land here. Then one will get reciprocity as Canadian CA. Canadian CA is a licensed designation and with that it is not difficult to get a job paying 85,000 salary.

Not all states qualify for CA-CPA reciprocity. You will have to prove that you have the equivalent of 150 semester hours which disqualifies 90% of CAs from India.

Also, you still need to complete the 36 month requirement at an approved CA office (if you haven't worked for a big 4 or a mid-sized firm in the past 5 years) which is extremely competitive to get and the salaries are low $35-$45k.

Btw, for BC and Alberta you don't need to be residing outside of Canada while writing the CPA exam provided that:

Eligibility Requirements for US CPAs

Applicants from some of the U.S. State Boards of Accountancy are eligible for reciprocity provided that the applicant :

1. holds a CPA certificate in good standing issued by a state board of accountancy which is compliant with the Uniform Accountancy Act (UAA) (July 2007);

2. has acquired while outside Canada at least two years of public or other accounting experience acceptable to the Institute.

I would say both are the same thing. Both(part time MBA and Executive) give you a chance to be employed and earn while you aspire to become an MBA. Also, in Executive MBA there's a clause where you have to provide a proof of you having a good experience. At least here they don't care about only Canadian Experience. If you can show them you have about 10 yrs. experience in India then also this does the trick.

For a new immigrant, a Full time MBA doesn't make sense at all. At least IMHO.

so, i think this discussion summarizes that its better to do CPA / CFA or like and then try and get a job in Canada (or where ever one wants to ).Then, do part time mba with experience gaining for future growth, as said by febpreet.

nntksv, most of my CA friends in gulf think about the same path of immigrating to US/Europe after making money for three years of work here. (Its very tempting to think about prospects of doing an MBA in foreign country and get a high paying job, immidiately after that, though it may not always be the case, as many have pointed out here.) . But part time mba seems to me to be a better option with low risk.

lali ji, ur point taken. experience in canada is must. But , i tell u the real problem is how to get that first job in canada? Not everyone has contacts. (Infact i have one contact, my boss is canadian NRI, But i will ask favors from him probably only when he is last canadian on earth, lol.)

Hi funnyboy

Getting survival jobs are easy. In Canada, it is not that your first job has to be a job in your field. The survival job can be used for gaining the "valuable canadian experience and reference" as was the case with us, my spouse and myself.
