My daughter will go to university (in Ontario) this year. OSAP will not be sufficient and I am looking for more options with lesser interest/ other charges.
Any suggestions?
Ben
Thanx Ash;
Checked that. That’s LOC (line of credit).
Interest from day one, interest on interest, no relief as in OSAP.
Anything like OSAP with some waivers/ subsidy etc.?
Ben
Will this help.

Freddie.
I would suggest that you do not spare the expenses that it calls for. Not knowing the caliber of the student that she is, I would leave it at the search you are doing to provide her with all of you can for the time being.
There are other co-op courses at Windsor University, Waterloo University and also at the Centennial College etc., that are stepping stones to success. But the students once when they get into the work stream, do not continue with furthering of their education and start to cruise along in life at that particular level all through their lives.
Hence I would suggest that they follow through with the guidance that you provide them with and the funding that you can afford. Do try to get the maximum leverage for the buck that you are spending.

The joke continues.................... on .
I know three students who went into joint programs with Co-op here in Waterloo and thought that they will be hired by their coop companies and were shocked NOT be hired. This includes Microsoft.
They have a fancy degree with some experience but NO jobs to take.
Their parents want them to go back to India but the kids do not want to go there.
They sit at home applying without any response, watching ESPN and spending time on Facebook and other social networking sites.
These kids borrow change for their expenses from their parents at the age of 24 years while the counterpart kids in India are already on management track with long term goals.
One of the parent literally cried over my shoulders a few weeks ago saying that I did not immigrate to Canada for this.
Don't blame me, I'm just laying it out there.
Hey don't shoot the messenger.

Sunny Leone a true Canadian DESI now back in India !.
I will contribute my 69 cents and HST for the next box of tissue at your place.. Because, I don't have a shoulder to offer.
You should look at the fees charged and the load of other fees included after that in the Co-op Programs, I would have to come down to borrow for the bus ticket too.
The fact remains, that there are 120 students in each of the year in each of the institution and they stay employed for the duration of their courses and there is no guarantee that they will continue to do so after their graduation. In the past five years, 50% of the students have lost their steady jobs and you did hear about a cross section of those from your circle of friends. Now the next question is, would they continue in their studies if given a chance or due to circumstances and see if they can better themselves?
I doubt it.
Education is not a gamble. It is the stepping stone to success. But in these difficult times, where jobs are far a few, people are finding it difficult to manage themselves after their graduation. A Few are lucky to have Parents here to shelter them.
Do you think that this 53 Billion deficit spending will create 53 steady jobs? Never, but it will surely come to haunt us when the clawback starts some time in the near future. The government is not going to share the royalty check or the taxes collected. That will be loaded on to another gravy train for themselves.
So, who are the ones creating the jobs? You guessed it, it is the ones in the Fortune 500, trying to do their darnedest to keep themselves going, with some morsels from the Big Brother. ( Government) You can also see where the grants are going too.
