Hello,
We are thinking of driving down to Long Island City and I was wondering if anyone has some suggestions based on tried and tested routes to reach there as well as a comfortable hotel to stay just after we cross the US border.
thanks,

Thank you Iceberg, that is very helpful!
Does anyone have suggestions for an overnight stay?

If you have CAA membership you get discounts for many hotels / motels on the way. Though I would recommend complete the trip in one go. Should take about 9 - 10 hours if you have CDN passports - to avoid wait times at the border.
