Hi

Thank you for your time,,

1) Can I apply for surrender certi. at VFS office ? VFS website does not mention anything about Surrender certi.

2) if indian passport expire in 2005, fees are $240 fine + $20 ? how can I get exact answer how much to pay and

3) The thing web site does not mention that they accpet VISA card/ Debit card so it is very hard to make money order or DD for the perticular amount, even in canada they made procedure complecated.

4) what is the best day & time to visit this location ?

thx

I believe if you became citizen before June 1 then the fees is $20.

"The Consulates would levy penalty if the Indian passport has not been cancelled for more than 3 years, or if it had been utilized to visit India or any other consular service was obtained after acquiring foreign nationality."

"This procedure of paying Renunciation Fee shall be applicable to those who acquire Canadian citizenship on 1 June, 2010 or thereafter. Those who acquired the foreign citizenship on 31 May, 2010 or earlier need not pay the Renunciation Fee. However, they must get their Indian Passport, whether already expired or not, duly cancelled. For this, they can approach the Indian Consulate which will make necessary entries in the records kept with us, cancel the passport and return it to you after marking it “Cancelled” for your future reference. A fee of C$20 is charged for this service. (For Indian Passport which expired on or before 31 Dec, 2004, the cancellation service is free.)
◦It is essential to keep the Surrender Certificate endorsement very carefully as that will be required while approaching Indian Consulate in future for consular services"

NO. They stamp your OLD IND passport and hand it back - VFS cannot do it. Also, why do you want to spend another $20.00?

Your validity of OLD IND passport does not matter. What matters is date on your citizenship certificate.
Citizenship before Jan 1, 2005 - cancellation FREE
Between Jan 1, 2005 to May 31, 2010 - $20.00
June 1, 2010 onwards - $168.00

The above fees are per passport.

See 2 above - now you can make the DD/MO easily.

Consult your astrologer....<sorry could not resist>.
All days are same, but I assume Wednesdays should be better. Try to reach exactly at 11.00~11.15 am. Be prepared for approx 1.00~1.30hr wait. If you finish earlier, consider it your lucky day and buy Lotto max.

One thing they never mentioned on the form or on the website, is you need to take a self address return express post envelop for mailing of surrender certificate. The Canada Post counter in the same building gets good business out of it. 1 Envelop for the entire family is enough, just remember to submit them together.

I paid $20.00 for parking in the same building - so plan ahead for a cheaper spot or take the subway.

Good luck!!

Hiren

As far as I know, no. But, when seeking consular services for any reason, you will be required to submit your old cancelled Indian passport to prove that it has been cancelled.
