I appreciate your judgment.
We Indians are known for our etiquette and sophistication ,I would appreciate: not to comment on my post if anyone thinks he /she is a good critique.
I saw your blog Meghal and as you rightly said I am comfortable in Hindi ,English.
In the end what I want to say ; we are all separate: our stories, no matter how similar, come to a fork and diverge. We are drawn to each other because of our similarities, but it is our differences we must learn to respect.
Puja my own exp....
working for a call centre helps a lot.You get to know the common lingo....

I think one can improve one's communication just by being aware of when (with what words/sentances) miscommunication occurs. For example my kids are always picking on me that I cannot pronounce the letter r as clearly as required (according to them ) in words such as burger, car etc. Canadians stress the r in these words and it becomes difficult for them to understand what we are saying when we dont.
The tips about speaking clearly and slowly are good. Also what I find helps is saying the expected. If you are expected to start a question with a particular kind of starting and end with a question mark then do so. As Indians we often make a statement and end with a question mark.. perfectly clear to us (This is your book?) but very unclear to most canadians (Is this your book? or, for example "I was wondering if this was your book " is preferrable). Also speak in complete sentances (another thing we are not very good at) and make it crystal clear what it is you are trying to communicate (a feeling -"I feel", a question, a doubt- "I wonder", a thought- "I think" )
Just improving one's accent is very cosmetic in my opinion though it might be very important in some professions. I find it more important to improve my overall communication instead of worrying about my accent.
