Any particular border to prefer when crossing the detroit/windsor border?
Ambassador bridge or the tunnel?

As far as the quality of the border crossing, nope.
But the bridge is straightforward to get to from 401 while you need to go through the city streets to get to the tunnel.
The tolls are slightly different as well.
Tunnel has access to M-10, I-375 and I-75 and you can connect from there to I-94 and then to I-96. Bridge has direct entries into I-96, I-75 and I-94 (right now due to construction, that may not be the case).

As suggested by you I am planning to see my cousin at the oak mall, which exit is better for me in that scenario?

I'd suggest you take the bridge just because you simply follow 401 to Huron Church to the bridge. Quite straightforward. You'll have to drive an extra 4 to 6 miles compared to the tunnel. I-75 entry is marked once you are off the bridge/customs/toll.
If there is construction still going on, then follow the signs to I-75 very, very, very carefully as they can be confusing since the detour will take you through several streets within Detroit and lead you to the entrance ramp off Rosa parks Blvd.
I assume Oak mall is oakland mall and not 12 oaks mall? Either way, bridge is straightforward for occassional visitors.
