Ohio has banned its state work being outsourced. That’s nothing for India. IRS, the counterpart of CRA, had a pilot project outsourcing for processing 60,000 electronic tax filings to India. Infy was one of the main firms to get major chunk of it. I don’t know if its still going on. IRS or Infy don’t talk abt it. Rest u can imagine reg US outsourcing to India. If IRS can do it, private sector will definitely do it.
Majority, around 70% of IT work to India is from US. But again not all IT degree holders will get good jobs. Lot of them are unemployable. Public sector banks don’t want much IT wrok to be done as that may affect the staff, it’s a union issue. Govt depts. Wont care abt IT work as that could affect corruption and nepotism.

But considering the Indian population, why can't the country be self sufficient when it comes to developing the IT infrastructure and services. There are so many services that can be automated.
How about networking government offices and departments, making all the services available online, just as we have in Canada. How about government spending on infrastructure, healthcare and education which can be a source of employment and give rise to dependent sectors? How about networking all the government libraries or police stations?
I know it requires a tremendous effort and willingness, but somebody has to start. I do not understand why even the new generation IAS/IPS officers become a part of system rather than becoming pioneers.
The biggest irony I have seen is the crappy websites of IIM/IITs/Universities/Government departments. Those college churns out graduates that dominate the IT field in entire world, but none of those colleges have any online services. Compared to websites of Canadian universities, Indian counterparts suck big time. I do not think any Indian university has an ability to apply online or order transcripts online.

My experience has been wonderful so far. I have availed the services at the counter and by mail for - my son's SIN and health card, done work with the Service Canada related to tenancy issues, worked with ON court for small claims, worked with OPP and RCMP for clearances for adoption purposes, worked with passport canada for passports and with CRA to receive forms for PR sponsorship, and worked with registry offices for property records.
The only time I had to wait for hours was when I was registering my car the first time in Canada and MTO and other public sector depts were on strike in 2002. Since then, I avoid that office and use the kiosk as much as possible. However, my driver's licence renewal that had to be done in person took less than 10 minutes.
In any case, on a relative basis, yes, private sector is much more efficient.

Have you ever tried Service Canada or Service Ontario? I was also able to apply for my passport online, when that service was available.
Even for finding information relating to business or tourism, I have found Canadian government's website quite helpful. I am lucky that I do not have to deal with Canada or Ontario gov't quite often, but whatever experiences I have, I haven't found it any painful.
Indian Central or State government can benefit a great deal from creating tourism related website. Most of the developed country have a separate website related to tourism, where you can even book a hotel or a flight.
Even when it comes to airport, lesser said about website of Bombay or Delhi airport is better.
India has great potential to develop its IT sector and no need to depend on US for any IT jobs. However IF INDIANS WANTS TO LIVE RESPECTFULLY WITH GOOD SALARY THEN first thing India should strengthen its currency value and bring at least close to US Dollar. It is possible but many Indian companies and rich people does not want to do becos they will loose their profit from foreign currency exchange.
If India can bring Indian Rupee close to US dolla r then How indians and Indian economy will benefit.
1.Indians will no need to travel abroad for earnings.
2.Indians will develop their business in home land and they can create lot of job opportunities.
3.Because of job opportunities and high income, citizens will not move for foreign immigration.
4.Indian government should fix minimum salary for laborer and it should be on hour basis. This will help to eradicate indian poverty.
5.Indian domestic product quality will improve and people will purchase more items for less money. Indian exports will grow.
6.Since Indians will not move to abroad, they will not be humuliated anymore in the foreign lands. (millions of indians humuliated in gulf every year)
WHY INDIA IS NOT STRENTHNING ITS CURRENCY BECOS RICH PEOPLE (INCL. POLICITIANS) ARE CONTROLLING THE GOVERNMENT AND THEY DO NOT WANT TO LOOSE THEIR FOREIGN CURRENCY DEPOSITED IN HUNDREDS OF SWISS BANK ACCOUNTS ILLEGALLY.
NOTE : WHEN THE INDIAN CURRENCY STRENGHTHEN JUST 10 PAISE SOME SIX MONTHS AGO, THE INFOSYS CHAIRMAN SHOCKED AND SPOKEN TO GOVT. THAT THE COMPANY WILL LOOSE MANY CRORES AND HE WANTED TO LOWER AND LOWER AND LOWER THE CURRENCY TO HIS OWN BENEFIT.
