Hi ,
I don't think its been discussed before :
While traveling b/w India and Canada or back , one can break journey and tour a new place at very less additional cost since no extra fare needs to be paid ....
During winters which are popular places one can visit ?... I doubt if Europe would be welcoming as it would be winters there too , but I am wondering how the following are as tourist friendly countries ... and stop over destinations ...
UAE
Turkey
Singapore
Egypt
Malaysia
During summers Europe would be great ..... 1 week in Switzerland and 1-2 in India .... that would be great .... but winters ... brrrrr...
any others ???? ... It would be good to learn others good experiences ....... Please share ....

I have heard Turkey is worth visiting. I am not a fan of Egypt (maybe my media filled brain is prejudiced).
Europe is not too bad in winters. They tend to be milder surprisingly sometimes. Anyway, I would like to visit southern Germany (Bavaria) for its beautiful locations, castles and the Black Forest. I have been to Konstanz in Germany and on Lake Constance to a point in the water that forms the borders of Austria, Germany and Switzerland. Beautiful location. The other one could be Scotland.
To me, Netherlands always held a charm mostly because I have travelled there several times on business and sneaked away to tour very very short trips. It is an easy country to travel with a great majority speaking English and people are very friendly and the public transit, as in most of Europe, is wonderful. Plus, plenty of direct flights out of Detroit (closest major airport for me from Windsor) that also continues into India.

I stopped over in Frankfurt this year in Jan and traveled to London and Paris. It was only an additional $50 to stopover for a week so it was worth it. The advantage of doing Europe in the winter is that the crowds are less and the hotel rooms go for cheap and also the attractions are less crowded.
Next year I will stop over in Istanbul for 3 days. I have tried Egypt but I do not think Eqypt Air goes from TO to Mumbai via Cairo. I would like to stopover in Amsterdam or Spain next time but depends on the availability of good fares.
Thanks Folks ,
For now we plan to stop over at the UAE ......
If one wishes to drive a rental car in the UAE , is a Canadian G driving licence recognized ?
Do they have GPS s in the UAE ? ... I hope some rental cars are installed with them .
Also - I have read that there s a 96 hour transit Visa when flying through the UAE ? Is it available at Abu Dhabi as well ??
Transit Visas
This type of visa is a 4-day (96 hour) visa, which is issued by sponsorship of an airline operating in the UAE. A transit visa can only be issued if you have a valid ticket for an onward flight and the issuing of transit visas are free of cost.
