About a year ago, my bank send me a credit card (for replacing an expiring card) in the mail. I kept on waiting for the card but did not received it, till my original credit card was expiried. On calling the bank they told me that it was mailed about six weeks ago. So, It was lost in mail, Or someone stole it.

As, I never received the replacement card (it had same card number as my original card)and never activated that. So the bank cancelled that lost card and send me another card with different card number.

It is about a year now. I did not saw any unusual activity on my card statement. Nor, did bank or anybody called me again about it.

I donot know whether the replacement card were lost in mail or it was stolen by anyone.

My worry now is: Could that lost replacement card still be harmful for me in any way. As it had my name, and envelope had my address, and it was lost at the time while the original card with the same number was still active.

Also, If I ask for free credit report from the two credit rating agencies will it be of some help, and should I report this incident to them now?

You should update your location if you are in Canada.

If you are in Canada, you can get your free credit report by mail by sending required documents to Equifax and Transunion. It would list all your credit cards and loans and balance thereof. If you see something suspicious there, then you can raise it with concerned bank or credit reporting agency.

Just knowing ur name and address will not be harmful in anyway. Names and addresses are public and you can find in yellow pages also.

If someone had used ur lost CC then you would have received the transaction statement from ur bank. The cancelled CC is of no use.

Based on ur query, I don't see any problem.

In addition to checking your credit report, call the bank and tell them about it.
Tell them you don't know the replacement card number and expiry date and ask them to completely cancel it.
Note the date/time and the name/number of the agent you speak to and record it in case this ever comes back to you.

A Mortgage professional can get my credit report. also i can apply free report.

does appying a free report will deduct my credit score??

if mortgage person can give it free to me (will it reduce the credit score?). is it ok to get from him/her??

An ethical mortgage professional can (should) only pull your credit report if you complete an application with him/her for mortgage purposes.

A credit score is a numerical expression based on a statistical analysis of a person's credit files and the score keeps on moving up and down. When you pull your own credit report (whether a free report with out score or buy one with a score), it does not affect your credit. On the other hand when a mortgage broker or a lender pull your credit report, your score may come down by some points (5 to 10) but would eventually bounce back in a couple of months time. However, if there are a number of enquiries in short period of time, then the hit may be more but again it would bounce back though it may take several months to do so.

Your Bank or a Mortgage broker is under contract with the Credit Agency to NOT to provide the report to the consumer but again exceptions are there.
