Looks like CONgress at it again! CM Ashok Chavan is involved in the scam that was meant for the kargil widows and heroes. The apartments were grabbed by netas, Navy and Army generals, and other influential folks including CM's mother in law and his relatives. Madam is trying to him to quit. Well so what? Will he go to jail? Nah...our messed up judicail system wont allow a neta to go to jail. He may move to centre to become a minister.

I agree that after a while he would be rehabilitated. Another feather in cap of MMS’s corrupt Government. Recently there was a news item in which India has been honored by getting 2 ranks higher in matter of being corrupt country. I fail to understand why Bleeding heart Left Leaning Socialists ignore such important news.
Further, the main question of Kargil war widows being allotted housing remains unsolved. I think the whole scheme, whoever devised, was with the intent to cheat. If Kargil war widows were to be allotted housing, there was no need to allot such a costly plot of land. It could have been in any decent area in suburb. However, the real intention, right from the beginning, must have been to appropriate costly real estate. As ususal, no news paper has commented on this. Shame on Indian media and shame on MMS.
As per rediff/TOI, Ashok Chavan met Sonia and has OFFERED to resign.
Why is Sonia involved in this scenario? Shouldn't there be an ethic commissioner / Court at State or Central level or somebody from army who is looking after this?
Scandals after scandals, and I still doubt BJP will be able to capitalise out of them in coming elections.

BJP’s failure to capitalize on corruption scandal is because of several reasons.
There is strong possibility that BJP leaders have skeletons of their own which they do not want to tumble out and let people see.
Then there might be a political decision concluding that people in India are indifferent to corruption, at least when it comes to voting. There is enough empirical evidence for that otherwise Sonia, Sharad Pawar , Lalu, Mayawati or Mulayam would have been out of politics long back. To people in India, Caste and religion matter much more than bread and butter and peace. I have a Desi colleague who is quite boisterous about India’s achievement. Recently over a lunch, some one pointed out about CWG corruption and India’s ranking on corruption index and we could not respond to that.
However, I would like other CD members to share their opinion here about media’s silence on equally important issue about allotment to Kargil war widows of housing. Why no newspaper has raised that issue or for that matter why has BJP not raised that issue?
This time it was Times Now which broke the scandal and Arnab Goswami was literally shouting from the rooftop of the skyscraper. Looks like everyone in India has become immune to the pain caused by these stings. The army officers involved have offered to return the flats.
This is literally a climbdown for the army officers from the 31 floor skyscraper.
Jounalist: Why are you here?
Army Officer: To buy apartment.
Jounalist: Aren't they meant for war widows?
AO: That is why we are climbing down.
This reminds us of an old village joke where a thief climbed up to steal coconuts. Confronted by the gardener, the thief says he was there, "to pluck mangoes". The gardener asks him how he can hope to find mangoes on a coconut tree the thief says "that is why I am climbing down".
This "returning business" is not the first time. There was this news item in a tamil newspaper. A few years there was this cabinet minister's wife, a lawyer, who appeared for the excise against a company defaulting to the tune of crores. When that dept lost the case, she conveniently returned her fees, may be a few lacs. What moral integrity? One small information is that the the minister's brother and son were directors in the Co. which won the case and also several crores but may be minus the lawyer fees. The minister also conveniently pleaded ignorance on the whole issue.
This is shameful that living officers are using "Kargil" for their own welfare, but not that of the war widows. But equally true is there are millions in India who are daily fighting many "Kargils" in slums in Mumbai and other cities, against poverty, unemployment, illiteracy, unhygenic living conditions. Whether it is Spectrum, CWG or the actions of the minister's lawyer wife or the housing scam, the sins are the same and the punishment meted out must be swift and severe.

Though the Navy and Army generals who were alloted flats in that bldg have offered to return, it is due to the exposure of the scam. What if the scam had never come out? Would they have let go the expensive flat? Nah...they would not. Sufferers are the widows and the forgotten martyrs who laid down their lives to protect the people of India including the corrupt netas and babus. TV channels are reporting that Ashok Chavan may have also been involved in real estate scams in other cities such as Yavatmal.
Looks like our country cant survive without scams!
The basic reason is that Indian as a society has lost his social consciousness.
That is we want our kids to be an Engineer, Doctor, Computer Expert but never a Good Socially Conscious Human being.
Parents will spend time on goading their child to study hard by giving examples of neighbours kids of how successful they monetarily but never on their character.
The parents want their kids to get good marks get into good colleges and then get High paying jobs BUT never they stress upon being a good Indian, who is morally correct and who takes care of the environment around and also the society around them.
It is like cleaning the house and dumping the garbage on neighbours door and when the wind blows it land back into their home.
In west many a children are morally correct but how many of them throw their garbage on the floor?.
How many of them do not stand in a Que and cut the line?.
How many of them pay a bribe?.

The reason being we have left our culture on the way side and started focussing on materialstic gain.
But the good news is that it is a cycle. The society chases material gain and then suddenly realizes that there are other more important issues and then refocusses its objectives.
Even in India the focus is shifting towards good health and environment.
After some time we will realize that it will realize its lost of its cultural heritage and then refocus morals and social consciousness.
Hope it will do it before it is too late.
