“Telecom Minister A Raja has been indicted by the CAG in the 2G spectrum scam, which resulted in a loss of about Rs 170,000 crore (Rs 1.7 trillion), says a report in The Economic Times.”

Well, one more scam in the UPA. Its abt $40 BILLION Cdn to the govt. Nothing happens. Maximum he may quit. This is coalition politics. Raja belongs to DMK party (they are only in Tamilnadu) whose chief is 85+ Karunanidhi. He’s sort of mentally imbalanced at this age. He’s refusing to let Raja go. CONgress needs DMK support to be in power. Wily Karunanidhi knows it all too well. CONgress hands are tied up by DMK.

In any other saner country, Raja would have gone to jail. Not in India. He will go free.

Alagiri ‘bombards’ Raja at Delhi airport

Express News ServiceFirst Published : 22 Oct 2010 02:00:24 AM ISTLast Updated : 22 Oct 2010 12:53:38 PM IST

CHENNAI: In a shocking incident that brings to the fore the infighting in the DMK, Union minister M K Alagiri allegedly confronted his cabinet and party colleague, A Raja, at the Delhi airport on Wednesday night and abused him in public glare - much to the embarrassment of the latter and the party men around.

According to the proAIADMK channel, Jaya TV, Alagiri even raised his fist twice sitting inside the car even as Raja was standing outside pleading with him that they discuss the matter later at Alagiri's house.

Jaya TV reported that Raja had come to the airport to receive Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin when Alagiri, who had landed by another flight from Chennai, was driving out at 8.30 pm. On spotting Raja, Alagiri stopped the car, called him and reportedly asked Raja if he, a married man, was not \"ashamed\" to \"have an affair\" with a woman. He also berated him for \"bringing a bad name\" to the party by \"making money\" in Delhi.

Though it is confirmed that Alagiri landed at Delhi airport on Wednesday, the news, coming close on the heels of AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa attacking Alagiri in Madurai, raises a few questions. Not the least of them: Why should Alagiri choose a public place to confront Raja? After all, Alagiri could have pulled him up in Chennai itself - that too long ago when the nation was rocked by the 2G spectrum scandal.

Mu Ka responds that all this slandering is happening because RAZA is a DALIT.

The general anticipation is that RAZA will resign and Kanimozhi will take over.

Nothing will Change in India.

Kalaignar’s selective rationalism

GnaniFirst Published : 13 Nov 2010 10:53:00 PM ISTLast Updated : 13 Nov 2010 11:19:23 PM IST

Every Diwali, newspapers publish customary greetings to the people from those in power. This Diwali too, the President of India, Prime Minister, Sonia Gandhi, and a dozen political leaders from Tamil Nadu including the opposition leader J Jayalalithaa greeted the people with clichéd expressions of “let there be light in your lives”.

One conspicuous absentee is Kalaignar M Karunanidhi, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. As a proclaimed rationalist nurtured by Periyar EV Ramasamy, it is perfectly politically correct for him not to greet anyone on Diwali, a festival involving gods and demons. But Karunanidhi is a selective rationalist. He never fails to issue greeting messages for Ramzan and Christmas!

He regularly participates in Iftar parties, sporting a mussalman cap. Recently his poet-daughter-MP Kanimozhi known for her radical views on atheism and feminism, attended an Iftar party, in an appropriate outfit with a veil covering her head.

But Karunanidhi’s selective rationalism admonishes only Hindu religious practices unlike his mentor Periyar’s no-holds-barred criticism of all religions and their rituals. Karunanidhi once shouted at his party MLA Adhi Rajaram for wearing a red tilak on his forehead, ridiculing him that it looked like blood. Karunanidhi describes the BJP, a declared Hindutuva party, as a party of ‘pardesis and pandaarams’ (outsiders and priests), of course only whenever not in an alliance with it.

His family is always exempt from his rationalist propaganda. Several of his family members are religious. His daughter-in-law Durga, wife of M K Stalin, once proudly displayed her collection of Ganesha idols to a Tamil magazine. Few months ago, Stalin inaugurated a dining hall at Mundakanni Amman temple in Mylapore — Ezhilarasai, granddaughter of Karunanidhi through his daughter Selvi, had donated Rs 13 lakh to build the temple. Karunanidhi’s official wife Dayalu Ammal is a well-known devotee and a follower of Puttaparthi Saibaba. In the guise of holding a government function, Karunanidhi brought Saibaba to Chennai and the Baba made an exclusive visit to Karunanidhi’s house. Dayalu Ammaal prostrated herself before him.

Karunanidhi’s grand-nephew Kalanidhi Maran, grandsons Udhayanidhi Stalin and Dayanidhi Azhagiri are now active in film production. All their films are launched with pujas conducted by Brahmin priests.

Is Karunanidhi then a loner in the entire family of believers? Seems so, but probably isn’t. He is notorious for his superstitions too. He has been stubbornly clinging on to his yellow shawl for several years now — a colour suggested as a good omen for him by family astrologers, according to the grapevine. Recently, during his visit to the Thanjavur Big Temple for its 1000th year celebrations, Karunanidhi entered through the side door of the temple, paying heed to a belief that entry through the main door by any politician would bring a fall from grace and power. He also wore white silk dhoti, shirt and shawl for the function to ward off evil spirits.

Karunanidhi has also been inaugurating government buildings and projects on auspicious dates even before the completion of the projects and buildings. The new Secretariat and Assembly hall was opened in a hurry with a false dome as in film sets that cost several crores to build. But after four months, the Secretariat is still functioning from the old building. The Kottupuram library was opened without completely filling it up with books.

Yet Karunanidhi refrains from greeting the people on Diwali as, for him it celebrates an Aryan goddess’ victory over a Dravidian demon. But eminent Tamil writer Jayamohan thinks Diwali originates from the Dravidian celebration of lights in the month of Karthigai (December) and was ‘Northernised’ thanks to Buddhism.

Depite the CM’s selective rationalism, family-run Kalaignar TV has no qualms about celebrating Diwali. Diwali programmes were aired for three days since they brought in hefty moolah from advertisers.

It is high-time Karunanidhi either sheds his selective rationalism and started greeting people from all religions for their respective festivals, or becomes truly secular like his mentor Periyar, keeping away from all religious celebrations altogether. But that may never happen... Auspicious dates are now being looked for to hold the Assembly elections!

One of the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard!

A politician can be an adherent of any religion and can still be secular. Being secular does not mean refraining from religion, IMO.

Traitor A. Raja finally resigned. Monday is the day when the surpeme court is hearing two petitions on this issue. He knew the end was coming. This traitor has caused nearly $40B loss to the govt. Will he go to jail? Nah...DMK will threaten to bring down the govt as UPA needs the MPs to survive. Jayalalitha offered 9 MPs in case UPA dumps DMK. Karunanidhi got very insecure. So A. Raja goes. This guy has to be in jail rather than outside.
