Hello All,
Me & my wife are applying for our citizenship and would like to change BOTH are last names - I have no documents as this is a new idea/decision. Should we change our names before/while applying for our Citizenship or after? Please advise best course of action.
I searched the forum and could not find an answer. Also the CIC document/application http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/CIT0002E4.asp does not indicate this as an option and everywhere documentary proof is required.

You cannot legally change your last name. First names ofcourse you can.

You cannot legally change your last name. First names ofcourse you can.
1. For any name change you have to provide legal name change document.
2. If you apply later for name change, once citizenship issued will remain same name as title name but they will add new name as added name below.
4. If you are not desperate, don't try to change name for fun, you may have to hold and carry extra documents for life long...
3. I'm disagree with SANCHITA that last name can't be changed or first name only changeble. example: 1000s of women change last name to their husband's last name with required document Marriage Cert.

One can legally change total name including last name.
