It needs proper planning - which is not difficult at all. It does not need a \\\"lot of luck\\\" and is pretty straight-forward. Saying this from my own first hand experience.

Hi cdn_dude,

Can you please tell me if you are working in the technology sector?
Like software engineers. I am from Edmonton. 5 years experince in Share Point Design / Architechture. MCA from India.

Can you please tell me how can i find a suitable employer in USA?
Is it through the web site or through any agency? by the way i am a Canadian Citizen. Can you please shed some light on getting jobs in the USA.

Thanks
Kiran

-- Yes.

-- Start your search from the job sites such as dice.com. Monster is ok too, but it is saturated, in my opinion. Mostly, the consulting companies post jobs on dice. Also, keep looking on the company web sites (companies in your field of interest). Make sure to stress on the fact (in your resume) that you do not require visa sponsorship.

So if there is anyone on this board who lives in USA, I would appreciate some answers:

- I want to move to a place where weather is good for most of the year (8months+). Not too hot or too cold .. where I can leave the windows of my home open. I guess California is a good place .. any others? Note: I am looking for a place with a sizable Indian community i.e. Indian restaurants, Indian movie halls, Temples etc.

- TN Visa seems the best way to move to states, but under TN visa can my wife work in USA too?

- Schooling for children in Canada is free. What happens if I move to the states ... is schooling free?

- Cost of living I know depends on the region, and I guess California is very expensive. How much should one earn in california say to have a similar lifestyle to $100K/annum in GTA?

- Labour in Canada is very expensive which means you have to spend lots of time doing things yourself e.g. painting homes, maintaining lawns, shovelling snow and other work around the house. Is it the same for USA?

- Canada is relatively crime free, does USA compare?

- Does it makes sense just to directly apply for family immigration .. how long does that take?

in case weather is main reason to move. Think of vancouver. Also lot of technolgy jobs exist thier. No issue on immigration , wife work etc..

Hi cdn_dude,

I am a new member although I have been reading this web site for couple of years. I would like to ask you something. From your posts, I assume that you were in Canada and then you moved to US after getting a job. I would like to move to US too. My field is accounting. I have M.com from India and studying for Canadian CMA. I would like to know if I do US CPA, is it possible for me get a job in the US. Do you know how do US employers recruit from Canada. Do they recruit Accounting people from Canada? Do you know any specific web sites where US employers post advertisements for Canadian accounting people? Which profession is more in demand in US?

Thanks
Munark

Accounting is not medicine, there is no shortage of accountants/accounting students in the US.

Unless you have impressive work experience then don't bother.

It is not related to shortage of doctors/engineers/accountants. I know that the accountants get TN to work in the US. The CPA will certainly help, but is not a absolute requirement to get a TN. You should start looking on job sites such as Dice and LinkedIn.
