All,

I need help please.
I applied for myself and my wife for candian citizenship as a family application.

We appeared for the test today, and she believes that she will most probably fail the test.
I have a question here, will CIC consider both her and my application as one and the same ?

I am dead sure of passing the test , but will I also have to appear before the judge OR they will ask me to take the Oath, but my wife may have to appear before the citizenship judge.

Does anyone know of such a situation where one of the partners failed the test and other passed.

Any help will be greatly appreciated as I am really tense!

Thanks in advance

Its better to call the CIC / send them a letter asking them to separate both the applications and their processing . A friend of mine who received an RQ was advise the same by the CIC .

But Citizenship applications are considered as individual application not a family application. If one fails, other application should not be affected by it

As desi #1 said .... who ever passes the test in the family takes oath first. Other family members who failed the test will join later after going through all the process .... In most of the cases, it is just matter of time, only delays the things and nothing else. But needs to do some home work.

This is not how it works in reality.
While it is true that citizenship application is individual unlike PR, if the applications for an entire family were sent together, they are treated as a single unit.
Even if one is delayed, all others will get delayed.
The only way around is what Fido suggested i.e. notify CIC to separate the applications, although I don't know how effective it is and if they actually take any action.

In this case, if your wife has failed the test she will be called for an interview with the judge and if all is satisfactory, both of you should get the oath letter soon afterwards.
The delay you will experience will depend on the queue for an judge interview in your processing center (could be a few weeks to several months).

It is up to you whether you want to wait or separate your application.

When i gave the test we were told that if we fail first time , we will be asked to repeat the test...

Only after the 2nd failure will we be asked to see a judge..

As PM rightly pointed out if u suspect ur spouse will fail , then it is best to ask the applications to be separated, otherwise both applications will be delayed.

Don't be judgemental in advance. Each case is unique. CIC do considers age, education, knowledge and capability of applicant, based on provided info on application. You should wait until cic makes decision about partner's test result.

For multiple aplications, cic do process seperately but all have to wait for oath untill all applicants are ready to be called for oath same day.

Request for seperating files only advisable after knowing test results. CIC process is slower any ways due to work load, it is hard to expedite no matter what you try.

Incase, if partner has to appear before Citizenship Judge, only she has to answer. You won't have to answer. If she needs comfort, you can joint her only as interpreter with judge's permisson.
