Truck driving is not for everyone..
U need to enjoy driving long hours to be good at it.. Most new comers have to start with the long haul routes..
One major ticket and u could be out of a job.
Also the risk with driving long rigs is way greater than u think..
Actually if u intend to take up driving as a profession, driving a cab is much safer and easier than a truck.
Just came across a recent article in the NY Times
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/22/health/a-hard-turn-truck-drivers-try-steering-from-bad-diets.html?pagewanted=all
Trucking is a very laborious job that involves long hours on road. For sure you make decent money. You may want to work as an apprentice before going full time that would save you your investment.
Trucking is not for every one. It has it's down side too like back pain due to long hours of driving. If you want, you can try local city driving and reaching home/family by every day evening. In trucking not all make good money. Those go on long haul make some good money. Any how, do some research before taking any decision. Further this profession (transportation) is always linked to economy, how good or bad it is.
