Let me ask you something..,

What were people doing 200 years back for their living..
What was the basic necessity to sustain... What one really needed ?

US bloating National debt will hound its future.
Europe has similar problems
Japan has demographic problem (they can't even replace their society)
This coupled with the future of India makes India a very attractive destination for those forward looking individuals..

This is even more interesting: US knocking Iran out of SWIFT (& threatening sanctions for India, South Korea, etc those dealing with Iran) might be seen as the biggest ever mistake in the history books of future. Here's an alternate to SWIFT coming into existence http://www.citypress.co.za/Business/News/Brics-move-to-unseat-US-dollar-as-trade-currency-20120324
Once this is done, than USD supremacy days are gone. This will lead to an exponential growth specially in India (much faster than what the last couple of years had seen)..

What I want the contributors in this thread to do is to create a TRUE profile of yours in linked in and network with all your friends and colleagues from India and periodically benchmark your profile with our friends profile. In a unbiased manner. You'll then realize what is happening in India in terms of career growth.

As a professional you need to show a career growth and if it is not reflected than it reflects on your abilities and the job market in your country of residence.

I think many of you are with young school going kids. I know many a families with kids who have graduated from UFT, YORK, McMaster and many good universities with degrees including PEng without a job after 1 year. If they had relocated to India their career would have started than to be unemployed.

The worster thing than UN Employment is the Under Employment.

What is the point of all the education when you cannot put your education to use.

Many of you will realize what I mean a few years later when your kid wll end up doing Police foundation course And work as a security guard or work at Bestbuy after a double degree from Waterloo or work as pharmacy technician after doing a pharma degree while your counterpart kids in India are zooming in their career.

The standard response (including) MYSELF was that I relocated to Canada for better educational opportunities for my children.

I'll provide a good education for my children and if they are NOT able to make a career here based on their education then what is the point of my relocation ?.

Most of us one or other way have additional option of migrating back to India due to OCI ( much familiar environment / people / culture, assets back home)

what about a local who has no such option ?

Its not just money / education that motivated me to immigrate, we had established well there and middle east was no less than even US in making money.

my sister was given her car driving License in India without driving a car, isn't the probability very high such driver may run over my kids.

A Doctor's son / wealthy individual could secure a Medical seat who doesn't have any motivation / ethics to be a Doctor, would I feel safe when such Doctor is attending my kid.

If I am above average, I need to have familiarity with local bureaucrat or MLA, MP or some one, otherwise I don't stand a chance to challenge local thugs, Law Enforcement. I didn't need to deal with this in US.

I am not pursuing a million, billion, gazillion dollar dream here..Not dreaming for an X5, Mercedes, a mansion or a yacht or a fancy vacations.

I just want to make sure I, my wife and my kids grow in an environment where it is relatively free from corruption, is transparent. Kids get to play with other kids in a safe environment, Both of us are able to spend time with the kids in local sporting activities ( I don't need million dollar to entertain my kids, some simple sporting good carry us much far), there is some backing from the Govt (through education, healthcare, career) as we pay tax.

Would I or my kids ever go hungry here ? at last isn't that one a human or even an animal strive for as the first priority, would my family be left in street if I ever lose my house or can't pay rent.

Needless to stay, the influence of society back home put such a pressure where being humble is stamped very differently. I can't live sustainable lifestyle. Here, I have the option to opt out of the society that would have influence on me. But hey, I am not advocating to give up our effort to sustain in life instead I continue to instill the values of hard work and pursue steady growth. I don't need to invite the outlaws to my gathering in the name of Ministers or MLAs.

As this discussion is getting hot, I want to share my personal experience which I recently had during my visit to India. Last year when KumarM and TK moved back to India and shared their good experience, the desire to re-connect with my roots has re-ignited. I also read the views of ashedfc about the potentials of Indian Economics and inspired to think about moving back. It all happened in the last quarter of last year and coincidently, I have to take 4 weeks of vacation to avoid any vacation lapse so I haphazardly decided to visit back home. Besides meeting my friends and relatives after 5 years, there was another hidden agenda in my mind to evaluate the current situation of jobs and lifestyle.

Upon landing at Delhi Airport in the 2nd week of Dec., the structure and look of the airport building has fuelled my hopes and by the time I was riding the Airport Metro, the ‘relocation back concept’ started looking feasible. Somewhere in the back of my mind, I started calculating my assets in Canada and planning the exit strategy.

At the end of day one, I woke up and decided to have a walk to the nearby marketplace with my brother-in-law. I felt a combination of thick fog, smoke and fine dust in the air. He was okay but I was feeling suspended particles in the air and I have to breathe them. I have to hide my uneasiness thinking he will think that I came from Canada and showing him attitude. All roads and streets become narrow. Cars were parked on both sides just leaving enough space to pass a single car. Some places where the roads were wider, the cars were parked perpendicular to the road thus leaving a narrow passage to move one car only. The vehicular traffic exploded in the last 5 years.

I can write a book on what I have experienced but in nutshell, here is my excerpt.

Commuting: Driving is getting very stressful. You may have to have a driver otherwise your blood pressure will go up. No one has patience on road. You will see people having physical fights on the road due to driving conflicts.

Infrastructure: The progress has cramped under the pressure of rising population.

Work environment: Depends upon organization. The govt. employees are still enjoying. The corporate culture has changed. One has to give results to be in the race.

Social life: One of my compelling point to move back – has changed a lot. The professional life has crept into the social life. Less time for family and friends.

If you are thinking to move back, do some homework. Take few weeks’ vacation and spend some time over there. Judge the ‘would be quality of life’ over there in your professional life. It will help you in taking the decision. Neither dollars grow on trees in Canada nor Rupees grow over there.

At the end, it is a human psychology that we never satisfy from the present. Either we live in past or dream about the future.
