Because censorship isn’t the answer and I’d rather use it only as the last resort. I’m a firm believer that people sensibilities will eventually prevail, even though it may not always be smooth sailing. Besides, there are at least as many issues with rigidly controlling content as there are in not doing so, and I believe we’ll all be better people for siding with the latter scenario.
I don’t feel this has degenerated to a level where I need to start deleting threads yet. If the majority of you do, then let me know and I’ll take action.
OTN, I still hope you’ll modify your signature.

the fact that there is such a sensible debate itself shows that there is sensibility in most of us ....tolerance and brother hood is what joins us together ....mud slinging over other's religions is not what we indians have in our ethos . and that has been so clearly evident in our threads so far which has remained tolerant and respectful to all.
Unfortunately there are always fringe elements who dont get these values .
Hate mongering is not what we stand for . ...and that is not the purpose of this site. people like OTN will only will only drive people away from this site which has been getting so popular among all sections of the desi community.
as an analogy .... just like taliban did not represent all muslims ...people like OTN do not represent all Desis.... we desis represent a lot more inclusive and tolerant values than what OTN shows.
it time to treat OTN as an aberration among desis and move on .

Not all the fingers in one hand are the same and the difference of opinion would always be there. However, I do not think that OTN is an aberration. I believe (and I may be wrong) that in the other thread 'Day of Shame' the religious discussion was started by another senior member by quoting a holy book and that's where it all started. Since a holy book was quoted for one thing, then OTN in response quoted the same for other.
I hope that we all should make a Conscientious effort NOT to bring any religious discussion in threads as far as possible to avoid unplesant discussions amongst all desis.

Even I don't think OTN or for that matter anybody on this forum is an aberration. I actually agreed with some of the points he made in the "Day of Shame" thread; just as I disagreed with others. And honestly, I thought the point-counterpoint thread was progressing ok and despite OTN's insinuations, DIA seemed happy to reply.
What I don't however agree with is stretching that into every thread, I find that childish and it does not do anyone any good.
Even though the primary objective of the site is to focus on immigrants and their issues, it does get a bit boring to discuss immigration all the time. I find constructive digression a welcome change and honestly, there's something for us all to learn in these discussions as well. However religious discussions do warrant a higher degree of maturity and tolerance than usual, the question is are we that mature and tolerant enough?
Probably not, in which case those discussions should be restricted to private messages and/or emails.

I'll let OTN answer for himself but I do not think he was hate-mongering. He was repeating verbatim, ideology, that does find resonance among many desis. Ofcourse, if this ideology is a matter of right or wrong is something I do not really want to go into(thats the reason I stayed on the fringes when religion came into the other thread). This difference of opinion I can live with. I also think its healthy if not introduced into each and every thread.
Thus:
What I did find offensive is the signature that OTN has put in lately. That is my only issue with OTN. Again I would rather that personal judgement is used in these cases. The signature did lack maturity...however, lack of maturity is something many of us have been guilty of at one time or the other(including yours truly 
. I'd say leave it to OTN to decide.

i kindof agree with you guys ...i take my words back ..OTN was not hate mongering ....i just found his signature very out of line and ill intended ...and so i let my views out ...on second thought maybe i went too far .
I agree with BL...there should be all types of topics here but religious topics should be opened only when we feel confident that the dicussions can take place in a mature and respectful manner. It is very enlightning and enjoyable to have such discussions when everyone maintains mutual respect .
Starting with myself first I dont think many this group has that level of maturity yet. ( barring a few members who i know will not stoop down to mudslinging)

BL... I was accused of hate mongering and now I am not accused of hate mongering... Me a fringe element (wonder why ? Just cos I happen to discuss something objectively ?) vs the politically-correct elements ? If you remember guys even in the previous thread, I never began discussing relgion per-se. In keeping with the trend political correctness( I repeat I am not religion bashing..) I remove the first link from my thread. However ppl who find my signatures "offensive" can easily suppress them when they are viewing threads...
Change that in your user profile (My settings... Show signatures)..
