CIC website

Do I need a multiple entry Temporary Resident Visa if I intend to travel to the United States during my visit to Canada?

A single entry visa allows you to enter Canada only once. However, this visa may also be used for repeated entries into Canada from the USA or St. Pierre and Miquelon provided you do not enter any other country. Such entries must occur within the time that was granted for your stay in Canada.

If you intend to travel to the United States during your visit to Canada, you do not need a multiple-entry visa in order to re-enter Canada directly from the United States during the authorized duration of your stay in Canada.

From my personal experince, I would suggest that you ask him a carry a printout of the rules from the CIC website. Not all airline employees are aware of this rule and can deny boarding.

Peacock1,
You will need a US visa to enter into the USA from Canada.
However, with a single entry Canadian visa and a USA Visa (USA visa is mostly multiple entry), you can make unlimited visits to USA/ Canada, subject to the duration that you will be allowed to stay in Canada (3 - 12 months). Also with this you canot visit a third country and then enter Canada.
hope this helps, unless the laws are changed now.

Peace
