Meghal you may not like what I am going to write here,
I was upset reading the OPs post that how we desis demean ourselves. 'Being Pure Desi' made synonym to cheapest room, working on temporary status, adhocism etc. by Mr. Patel. First I thought perhaps it was typical of Patels, and gave it to him,. But then I widened horizon of my thoughts, I called myself wrong for giving it to one set of desipan because when I took myself back to all the years been in Europe, US, Canada. Reality is my own well read desi colleagues who in-fact were white collar executives & consultants were looking for anything cheap to live in, cook and wear. Their behavior was so obvious and appalling for an onlooker. Numerous examples of IT consultants from Indian Co. getting perdiems to live decently but chosing to share one room , cooking together to save bucks. Worst was they were not taking part in official but pooled get togethers and events to avoid contribution of 10 -12 bucks. The only saving grace was they were working legally in foreign land.

But traditionally there are thousands of example of people coming on temp visa and working illegally. Artists, singers, sportsperson , religious preachers come to foreign land for 3-6 months and drive trucks, work in restaurants. One of my known came to attend wedding 10 yrs back in California , never returned back. He cannot travel at all due to his status and is living illegally in US. and then there are thousands of desis doing so well ,managing companies, teaching in universities, inventing and buying businesses and making an impression for our community

To sum up, there are all kind of Desis if you look around, It is an individual's choice to put oneself in a league or class. There are always some unavoidable impressions of ignominious demeanor attached to each ethnicity which may not be washed and cleaned in one life span, it takes centuries to make impression, Live on !

As a rule VISITORS to Canada cannot seek employment.

But a few might hire and pay CASH, under the table deal or casual labour work.

With two good months' work here, might make their air fare money. That is a long shot.
