Dear All , I have been informed in this forum that if a person who has studied Law (3 years BL ) in India and a practicing lawyer plans to start the profession in Canada his Indian degree is of no value and he has to study Law in Canada again .
Could any one please inform me the best university to study law in Canada and the number of years of study in U of T to complete LLB for a student who has 3 years law degree from India .

Hello Lawyer

Nope the info provided is wrong!! There is a Federal Equalizing program which will enable you to do the course in one sitting, its up to you how long u want to take. If you sucessfully complete this program you are eligible to appear for Bar exam conducted by the Law society of Upper Canada. On completing this you will be a qualified lawyer in Canada. Now Which college or University did you finish your BL . Can I ask you what is your over all % (this plays a vital role in being selected for the Federal Equalizing Program) and how many years of Experience do you have??

Take care & All the Best

I think 56% is Second Class with that she can get exemption for certain papers. Try visiting http://www.lsuc.on.ca/ this is the website for Law Society, http://www.flsc.ca/en/foreignLawyers/guidelines.asp this is the link for the Federal Program to Equalize on reviewing this you should have an idea as to how you can go about becoming a Lawyer in Canada.

All The Best
