Suggestions please!!!!!!!!!

Another approach you could try if you aspire to run your own venture is to explore your passion (instead of your qualifications) and implement that into a for-profit venture. Any venture you desire would require certain amount of investment.

I know of a person who has setup his basement to conduct math tutoring. He does it part-time and has a flock of kids everyday at $20 per session. It's a low cost venture, but requires time commitment and the patience, along with a decent "classroom" type of infrastructure.

You could also look into managing a franchise. Of course, this would require considerable $ investment and a certain amount of business savvy (depends more on the personality than qualifications).

Whatever you do, don't ghettoize yourself into a bubble of any particular skin color / race / ethnicity. I hold the opinion that doing so is one of many slippery slopes to failures. An open mind would bring you the success.

On the flip side, your current qualifications or experience may or may not hold much water in Canada. So, come in with a realistic expectation, assimilate well and learn the ropes.

Best wishes to you.

Have you thought of becoming independent finance consultant or financial planner? I think there are some exams to be pass before you get a license.

of course you would. Unless :
1. You decide to quit Canada during your retirement years.
2. Govt. reduces the benefits during your retirement age (like stricter OAS/GIS norms, asks you to pay a major / minor portion of your healthcare etc...)

Priti : Now you have got a feel about your proposed life in Canada.
But I see an advantage for you as mentioned by another poster. Financial brokerage is a very lucrative field in Canada (next is real estate). There are people who have done well.
However on another note, it is the same story. People know the hard life in Canada and think it canot be harder than Gulf. Once they land here, they know the real hard life of Canada, incl. taxes, no availability of job, prices (1 CDN - 55 Rs.), weather.

Since you will be coming from Gulf, it is a good bet for you to buy a house. You could sublet the house to students or other poorer desi immigrants. This will also take the load of money of you and make you eligible for ontario grants (free money / childcare / HST benefits). Interest rates are at a historic lows and it is an advantage to you.

There are numerous; like the Home jewelry business,Internet Marketing business, etc. If you have a PC and internet, you can access online jobs or you could try content writing or blogging which are presently getting fame.
Actually it depends on your talent to choose from. Many http://www.kpmg.com/Ca/en/services/Advisory/PerformanceTechnology/Pages/BusinessEffectiveness.aspx" target="_blank">business strategy consulting firms are now present that provides professional guidance to support your business. The one important thing to keep in mind is that, you should always be aware of the current market trends and should move accordingly.

There are a lot of hurdles for newcomers to Canada. They do not recognize your qualifications and experience initially. Thus first generation struggles.

But there are plenty of opportunities if we think out of box. Immigrants are progressing well now.
Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba are having a lot of jobs.
There are two types of business opportunities. One is traditional where asians have been doing it for some time (like transportation, retail, real estate, food and services (needing no capital) like real estate agents, insurance agents, financial services etc.
The non traditional opportunities are more rewarding like technical consulting, mining services, trading, import/export, logistics, bio technology, construction business etc.

Thx
