Hi Desi, i really want your ideas about opening a restaurant, first of all i will start actively only after a year, I have chosen either BC or Toronto, i heard BC has good market for an indian restaurant as the season would be all around a year, also we can get financial help from goverment, does anyone knows better place/city in BC to open a restaurant where desi population is more, and how does the entire process works in opening restaurant,
If anyone have any negative thoughts about restaurant business , please dont tell me, i really dont wanna think back, i know what iam doing, and i know very well what it takes, iam not being over confident, right now iam being so helpless that i could not start right away,
Thank you soo much for you kind advice, suggestions and informations

Go ahead ...
Any help !!!!! do not hesitate to contact me.
If you can give mouth watering food and can do good promotion .... there is no way you can fail in food business.
Toronto or BC ( I assume you mean Vancouver)?????
ON (GTA) has almost 8 to 10 times more desi population than BC. That advantage you can always have in GTA. Of course GTA has lot of desi restaurants too ........ So "TASTE" is the KEY.
DO NOT PLAN making DOSA on your own .... unless you are a seasoned cook.
Plan and do professionally .....

Thank you so much Gurram, you reply is soo encouraging, just few words about me, i have been in this industry for over 15 years, i myself a red seal chef, and soon i will be getting my certified chef de cuisine designation too,
There are two reasons that i want to open my own restaurant is, i dont want to work for someone else , another reason is seeing the restaurant food quality around here, i am very sure that i can offer way much better food then the most of the restaurants offer here,
honestly i dont have much knowlodge about where to get restaurant equipments, i dont want to go for brand new equipments, i want to start with second hand equipments,

Geannel and Russell foods are the leading suppliers for restaurant equipements in Canada .Contact them and they might be able to help you source it from other restaurants .Youcan also look for auction sales from restaurants and keep an eye for used equipment from hospital and school kitchens.

Did not want to post here but had to, as I may be the reason for saving an immigrant from suffering and bankruptcy.
Be very careful in the restaurant business. Donot rely on Desi's. When Taste of India offers tastey buffer at $ 9.99 (2011) rate), do you really think that Desi's will come to you?
You can target non desi's but then Canadian non desi's are not that crazy about Desi food.
Sri lankan's are giving take aways for dirt cheap rates.
Restaurant's like My clay oven were open only a year. After that he could not afford the lease.
So be careful. Try to get into a niche market. That will be my advice.

peace

i dont think you have any idea, who iam , i am not the one who just want to do anything, i know what iam doing, i have also mentioned that i dont want any one to say anything negative, the very exact reason was you MR, Tamil kuravan, trust me, i read your many post and i do not wanted you to get your negative thought up in my post, but you did,
i do not mean to hurt you, but honestly you need to stop posting your negative comments, trust me when a person works really hard, there is no failure in anything, this is very basic,
All i asked was information about getting things for openign a restaurant, i never mentioned that should i have to get into restaurant or not, i already decided i will get my own restaurant, why would you come up with such negative thoughts, i dont understand,
please next time try to encourage people, dont do this again,

I appreciate you putting your opinion as a humble request.

I would like to point out here - Once you post something on a public forum, asking for comments & opinions; you are bound to get all kind of variables. (pessimist to optimist to realist). That doesn't mean anyone is right or wrong or anyone is more correct than other. They are merely expressing their views.

If you dislike it - you have a full right to ignore.

In my opinion, its not wise to only think positive, & ignore the other side. This is not prudent planning. Its being too optimistic. This is probably the reason why several entrepreneurs do not succeed (or go belly up). There are several examples.

I would say - Its important to listen to the list of negatives, so you are well prepared to handle them.

There's a saying "Never test the depth of river with both feet"
