I second ...dhaikin
mani-flowers: TK opinions will be very useful for you to go cautiously in your project and make necessary corrections.
As dhaikin said, in a public forum you get all opinions whether you like it or not. In fact, that is the purpose of a forum. We can't really ask people to say only one thing.
So, please read all opinions ( whether you like it or not) and build-up your project ... go ahead. As I said earlier, you can ask me for any help at any stage ......... if you need it. I like to see entrepreneurs successful in Canada.
Thanks Mr.Dhaikin and Mr.Gurram for your valuable feed back,
i respect both of your opinion, the way you both said was really way better , i know this is public forum, thats why i mentioned clearly what i was looking,
when a person looking to do something for himself, no one will come up with such words,
Mr Gurram, thank you soo much for your offer to help me, i would surely ask you for help when i start my work on my restaurant,
Look at your words,"i like to see entrepreneurs successful in Canada" this is what called help, these words are soo encouraging, its all able spreading positive thinking around,
there may be few restaurants which does not work, but i have seen almost every restaurant do good at some point, even people who does not have any knowledge about food industry have restaurant and they have been successful , its all about hard work !!!!
Mani,
Please update us with your career move from time to time or after 1 years.
9 out 10 desi restaurants in the GTA go bankrupt or canot find money to extend their 1 year lease. That is the reality.
You need to find a niche market and a location to be really sucessful.
These days who has the time to search for a unique taste.
I will tell you a sucess story of a restaurnt.
There was a guy (south India) who made nice dosa's and nice sambar / chutney. Dosa is one of the cheapest food of a south Indian. You need fowl (low quality rice) and urd dal.
North Indians crave dosa's and will pay a bomb for it. Thus was born Guru laxmi. For a 10 cent dosa and 20 cent Sambar, he charges a bomb. All north Indians flock into that place. His profit is more than 90% for a single dosa.
Like that try to create a niche market .
All the best
Murali

TK: One thing I do not agree with you. Taste makes a client to come for second time and many times to a restaurant which is necessary for the success. It is easy to make some one visit first time with promotion.
There are many Indian restaurants in GTA, where I stopped going second time mainly because of taste also customer service. May be that is the reason they went to bankrupt as you said. I visited many restaurants first time with family and at every place I must have spent around 50 to 60 dollars and they must have made a profit of 50% out of it at least. First time I went there because I want to try and to have a tasty food.
I do not know, how many are like me .... but I believe it applies to many.
Gurulaxmi ... I went there many times because of taste. Of course it is a small place and overcrowded. One thing I really didn't like there is adding tip (Gratuity) in the bill without telling the customer.
I understand ( thru my real estate friend) ... they recently bought a property worth more than a million.
Just my thoughts on opening a restaurant can be summarised in one sentence with less than 10 words
" Food taste, customer service & Location "
that's all you need.
Food taste is obvious.... but as you are quite experience, I think that's not your root problem. But remember the taste is different from people to people. Do you think that the restaurants owner who goes bankrupt thinks that his food is bad taste ?? For him its the best taste food as he might like it.... but for general public it's a different question all together !!!
Customer service is the your magic card...
Location is your lottery ticket. If you invested in the right place, you might get the right returns !!!
Best of luck
CAN-DE ... you really summarized well. I am sure these posts will help OP for his project.
What is the check list to ensure that a location is right for a restaurant ? I believe Good Parking is a MUST. How about having a restaurant near a shopping mall. The advantage is more people come there but the problem is every mall will have a food court.
