Hi,
Currently, I have manual passport bearing valid TRV and Study Permit (CANADA).
I am going to my home country and want to renew my passport to a Machine Readable Passport (MRP).
My manual passport bearing valid TRV will be attached with the newer one (MRP).
Do I need to transfer my visa from manual passport to newer one before travelling back to CANADA
or
I can enter CANADA while carrying old passport bearing valid TRV attached with the new passport?
Regards,
AK
No need to transfer visa to the new passport
Yes, you can enter Canada using the visa on your old passport. Carry both old and new PP.

I called the cic help line and a guy over the phone told me the same.......like I can renew my passport and attach my cancelled passport having valid TRV.
At the same time, I sent an email to Canadian Embassy in LONDON and they advised me to come over in person and they will print the same TRV and fix it to my new passport.
It is all confusing now........ Which one to follow, the CIC help line or Canadian Embassy in London.................
Here is the section of cic website about expired passports...
13.15.Valid visas in expired passports http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/enf/enf04-eng.pdf page 56
13.15.Valid visas in expired passports
If an expired passport contains a valid visa counterfoil, the counterfoil can still be used since the expiration of the passport has no effect on the visa's validity. Holders of a valid visa may continue to use their visa until the date it expires even if the visa is in an expired passport. Visitors can fulfil the visa and passport requirements by presenting both the renewed and expired passports containing the valid visa counterfoil to a BSO when seeking entry into Canada. The Regulations state that visas should not be issued longer than the validity of the passport. However, due to pre-IRPA cases, it is possible to encounter visas in expired passports.
It is not possible to "transfer" a valid visa into a new passport. If the holder of a valid visa wishes to have a visa placed in their new passport or if the passport is deemed ‘not valid’ for political or security concerns, visitors must apply for a replacement visa by submitting a new application and paying the replacement document fee in accordance with R311(2).
This is about an expired passport. However, my case is different as my passport is manual and not expired yet, I just want to get Machine Readable Passport.
If and when they cancel a Passport, most of the Officers in the Passport department, will leave that particular page intact, and will not cut the corners. That page will stick out to tell that there is some thing special on that page, and there is an entry in it that is still VALID. These are old customs. I do not know if they still carry on the same old traditions.
FH.
If they are saying that they will transpose the same for you at no cost, into your new passport AFTER you get it, (Or if there is any fee pay for it, just in case you forget to carry the old one or it gets lost) then, please go ahead, if you have the time on your hands. fh
