Dimple2001 & GKT ,
I am sorry if I have offended , but pray - kindly explain to me - how does my spending habits or spending mindset determine my earning capacity .... I don't understand this ...
I have known people who have brought $500K + houses and still brought modestly priced furniture .......
A lavish mindset does not lead to a high earning mindset -- on the other hand vice versa is true as I was highly shocked to read that a family who won $ millions in lottery were down on the road in 7 years !!!

High thinking & simple living is something my parents used to say when I was a kid ... if I remember correctly ...

Buy second hand or picking from the trash is almost the same. It may come with bedbugs. So you are better picking from the trash. Or you may have to buy something in Kijiji which was gifted and not used. Many Kijiji sellers will deliver for free or we have a Sri lankan (Guna) who will do delivery for very cheap.
Once I bought a new bed from a Indian liquidation sale. The head board was not laminated on the sides and after a month had bed bugs and so I threw the head board out.
TV is very important in Canada. Buy from Kijiji. You will get a older model for 1/4th of the new price. in 2011, I sold my TV for $ 10 (with a $ 14 remote that I bought a week back). So you will get good offers on TV.
Try to buy from IKEA. It is stylish and cheap.
Iqbal is a hyped up store. Biriyani will be decent but too much oil. From my experience, avoid Indian stores and switch to English or Chines food. I found that many Indian items cost a ton of money. I would switch to pulses, greens, steamed veggies, meat, salads etc.. of course Doasi/Idly/Chutney / podi are cheap and south Indian.
Hope this helps.

A great place to look around for household items (table lamps, decorative wall hangings, decor enhancers, etc) is garage sale in affluent neighborhoods.

My intention was to discourage the OP to run to the trash as a first source whenever there is a need for anything and get used to that habbit.
I never said it is a bad idea to look for some good deals. In fact that is a good thing and I am sure this is what people do.
It is always a good idea to read any post with reference to all others and avoid jumping to hasty conclusions and making derogatory comments that were uncalled for in the first place.

Dudes,
You are all mistaken.
A person's ability to spend money has nothing to do with his ability to get a job. You are relating two unrelatable things.
The Oracle software engr. that I spoke about bought $ 1 scarf for winter, invited me for dinner at a restaurant and then said that we have to divide the bill, used me as a driver etc.. However once he got a good IT job, saved money and bought a big house, SUV but still was very careful about spending money.
In contrast, I know a lot of professional people, who wanted to live decently in Canada and bought all new things. However many did not get good jobs and failed in Canada.
So the ability of the OP to pick from the trash, Use Kijiji, Buy from Loblaws, buy new furniture from the brick is sure not to reflect on their ability to get a job.
Let us just show the ways and let the OP decide herself how they want to live. let us not dictate terms, but only give our preferences.
