GG - Thanks for the detailed explanation, this certainly helps. I can completely appreciate that you are trying to steer the forum towards more Canadian topics. Plus, you are spot on that there should be no advertising on the site, even for a political party (and in that sense, agree with the name change).
That said, it is election year in India and all of us are interested in it for one reason or the other. If a thread is getting a lot of replies and staying on top for a long time, it just indicates that many folks are interested in it. I had a quick look at the thread and I think both AAP supporters and opposition were making their points vigorously. And except for maybe a couple of members, people did not resort to name calling or personal attacks.
My advice here would be to do the following instead of locking the thread
1. Do not show it as a top topic on main page after a certain period of time.
2. Warn people who are resorting to personal attacks and name calling. If this does not change, then put restrictions on their posting. This way, the discussion stays healthy.
Just my two cents - in any case, kudos the mods and yourself for running the site so well.

Are you there?
Thanks FIDO and BL for your point of views. FIDO brought an excellent point with having multiple threads related to politics in India could defeat the purpose as all of them can top the list. I really have to think about how to mitigate that risk.
BL, yes we are so connected to India and this General Election is going to be very high decible contest between the rulling party and the oppostion party with some strong tadka from the AAP that it would be hard to resist the need to discuss it. So hundred percent agree with your point.
To avoid the issue of Indian Politics Related topics coming on top on a regular bases, I have to think about something.
The other points are valid and we are definately trying to moderate the board accordingly.
Thanks.

A Proud Indian Canadian
Thank you GG for detailed post.
It is TRUE ... we all should try to be more on Canadian issues even though it is difficult to avoid issues back at our second homes that were primary once.
I personally am not a supporter of Aam adami party (and i believe it will die a natural death of its own making) , but this action by mods is shamefull.

Shameful explanation for a shameful act ....
- Primary focus is Canada , then why do you have the forum called "Our Native Country"
- No direct promotion of political party ..... unless it is Narender Modi http://canadiandesi.com/read.php?TID=32677&page=1
- Threads longer than 20 posts that died a natural death ... http://canadiandesi.com/read.php?TID=18728&page=1

Fido.
Or maybe do this descending sort on the 'Our Native Country ' section ...
I guess if we can have separate section with different topping rules ... posters can discuss also and there would be no risk of these threads topping the board continuously.

Fido.
