Your pension depends on how much you have contributed during your working years. Besides that, for those who have not contributed much to the CPP they get a minimum amount on humanitarian grounds and it doesn't eat up much from the tax pool or CPP. In future it is bound to get more restrictive and maybe eliminated all together for those who have been out of the system for a long period of time.

However, CPP itself is doomed. It will be two or three decades before most CD's will get any dime from these plans. The fact of the matter is that CPP will do nothing for Gen X'ers and those born later. Even the actuaries are sh!t scared.

At best it will only provide for a meager lifestyle, hand-to-mouth living. Good luck if you are relying on CPP for your retirement. This aspect should very much be incorporated into R-T-I decisions.

Elmer,
Differ from your view that the CPP is doomed. It may give a meagre amount for those who have not contributed the max. from age 18-age 65, but it is one of the best managed funds in the world, giving great returns. As of now, it is estimated that CPP has fund to pay for the next 70 years (longer than mine and your life combined).
But emerging markets are the best place to invest and rake up your savings.

True. I have experienced this myself.
Saw that a large chunk of my income goes towards taxes but even then I get more money that I earnt in Canada (even after converting).
Beside the city that I live in has an advantage as even the govt. hospitals are good and not crowded. But even then, I have an insurance to go to the city's top hospital, a hospital in which Sashi Tharoor's wife was treated.
I also pay just Rs 500 on a cylinder of gas (when the market rate is Rs 1200). I am thinking that I would also be eligible for subsidized rice, wheat, Sugar etc.., which I donot buy.
I have a very good idea of where my tax dollars go. (unfortunately I donot own a diesel car).

lol...
On the other note, wasn't the cause of her death due to drug overdose? I wonder the doctor must be from the same hospital prescribed the dosage...

If you make the same salary and pay more tax, how can you be getting more take home pay? Are you pulling one on us here?

We also have great hospitals here. But all of us are lot healthier than the others and so do not use it and so there is no crowd. The crowded ones are close to the highways and the demand on them is more.

There are so many posts from you here telling NEW Immigrants that there are FOOD BANKS here in canada and they should use it liberally.

I see an ideal situation at your end, where you can avail subsidized rice, wheat, sugar etc., right there where you live. If you don't take advantage of these, where you are currently, your preaching to the new immigrants in Canada does not make much sense. Are you ashamed to stand in the line with the Malabaris who spit on the side walk and smoke beedies and eat pan and regurgitate.!

What a paradox in life.!!

Full house,
Just to clear your misunderstandings.
I make more in India than what I was earning in Canada. So even after paying more tax, I take home much more than what I took in Canada.
I am ready to pay the market price of Gas cylinders but the company says that I should first use my subsidized quota of 9 cylinders before I can pay the market price for the 10th. I use around 6 cylinders a year.
When I get a salary of Say 1 lakhs a month, why should I use Indian Ration? On the other hand, when an immigrant comes and does not get a job or his salary is not enough to run his household expenses, he should use the food bank / soup kitchen.

Trust this is satisfactory.
