Everyone calls India's policemen lame...but take a look at some of these pics and your opinion might change

(May be opinion will change from lame to stupid brave who tried to shoo away a leopard with stick)

True. There were many instances where brave indian policemen reflected their integrity.
Not to forget the policemen who confronted the machine gun armed terrorists with their police latthis.

With all due respect with the martyrs during that episode I find it stupid instead of brave confronting hard core terrorist armed with AK47 with bare lathis . I may be wrong but I really feel bad fo rthe family of these policeman who lost their life in line of duty just because they were not even properly armed ( forget about life jackets )

Fortune favors the brave...

Some times you have nothing including time and then your adrenaline decides how you react ..In both these case either the capturing of the Terrorist or this leopard with bare lathis brings the braveheart of the cops out ...

What would have been an alternative .... OK lets get guns , wait for jackets then we will capture them ... Hey they are gone by that time ...Or ...lets stay back ... we will surely be killed ... thoughts of a faint hearted ....

At times of need , its your adrenaline and personality which decides whether you are a brave heart or a coward ...

I really salute that constable in lathi who charged and captured an AK47 bullet spraying terrorist without caring for his own life ...

I can see a similar cop in these pics also ...

Policeman could not wait for Jackets or the guns but they could easily relay the messages and form a trap .
Regardless of this episode do you think that any one has taken a lesson ? Is today's police better armed now ? Any safety measures taken to protect the life of these people . I have a deep sympathy for the people who died and may die in similar incidents .

Its not policeman's job to catch leopards. They are not trained for such endeavours. Not taking away the credit from the person who got involved and should be commended for the work done and bravery. But we have departments to catch stray animals.

I agree to the point that police and security personnel in India are niether sufficiently equiped nor well trained. Hence more casualities in the line of duty.

By the time the trap was set by the NSG .. and yes it was , it was quite a few hours .... and it was a war on the streets of Mumbai at that time .... It was actually a trap by policemen which barricaded the terrorist's car ...at that time you were pitted against a better armed rival which did not deter the brave cop at charging at him and capturing him despite taking bullets himself ... Valour personified .

I sincerely hope that after 26/11 Police Depts are better prepared to handle such situations ....

In this particular case ( leopard ) the first aspect was public safety .. that s why the animal control team was assisted by the Police ....They tranquillized it but the shot was not enough ...

Not all cops carry guns in India esp in no metro areas and they are just provided a baton .

But what s being discussed is the impression the image creates of the cop charging at the leopard with a stick ..... I would certainly term it as brave and fearless rather than stupid as at the last moment you just have once choice - to act or to sit back ....

Reminded of a dialogue from Damini .. 'Every body throws peanuts at a lion in a cage but if you are faced with one in reality your illusion of being a man will fade way '
