TK bhai: Congratulations! Looks like your motto is: "Go where.... no Desi has gone before."
Without a doubt, You are the James Bond of this forum. :-)
Stay safe and post some pictures of your new home.
Congrates Tk ,
Don't stick to Iraq . Do active search for the job in Kuwait , UAE , Qatar , Bahrine or Oman where you may enjoy family life with good salary .

Basrah was developed and built into a large shipping port during the first World War by a few Brits and there were hundreds of Indians there too who helped it build. So, you have no problems there, you will meet a few anyway. Learn the ropes from them.
After the Yanks left, a few of the nearby builders took in the bids and now are getting lower quotes for everything they build there. So, you also know who you are working for and why?
They have a new airport runway and three big airlines servicing the city of Basrah and when you land there, you will see the new airport. Also they have a big football stadium and a few hospitals, schools and currently a few condos. I know you will be housed in a glorified accommodation. We still have a few of them here in the bushes where the miners and loggers use. They are called loggers camps. Mosy of them are stacked on bunk beds. It does not matter how high they get stacked, please make sure that they have efficient Air Condtioning system and you get to sleep close to a vent. That will save your family jewels.
Since everthing is included, try and save a lot. Stay indoors as much as possible, because your work load is mostly out doors. Wear your Hard Hat at all times. Avoid all or most of the shopping. The tales we hear about the local atrocities happening there, makes us all shudder. There are not that many happening in that area. Also there are hundreds of check points and armed guards everwhere to man and weed out the criminal elements. You will have to exercise your share to avoid getting suckered into these incidents.
Brits and Canucks have a very good standing with the locals, so you might join them and form a group.
Cost of all of the items except for gas will be just about the same as here. Price of a liter of gas and water is just about the same too. 45 cents a liter. That never happened before.
You take good care (Extreme) of yourself and buy a box of tooth picks just to prop your eye balls wide open, 24/7 and learn to sleep standing up. No need for jammies.
The whole of Middle East is a tinder box, hence the extreme care.
May God Be with you.
FH.
DSD,
I am going to Iraq to avoid family life and you are telling me to enjoy family life.
Anyways, your point is well taken.

Thanks FH, your point is well taken.
However on the accomodation part, they are offering me a bedroom with a common living/ dining/ kitchen and fully AC. I will have a fully loaded Internet connection also.
The contract says that they have a Gym, food courts and super markets within the compound and it is going to be a Govt. building construction compound, in the center of the city.
Thank you.
Murali Krishna.

In my opinion its not worth to go to Iraq.
Just wait few weeks, major projects are being implemented in India (endless opportunities will be there).
Dhaikin:
It is not only for money, though money is part of the consideration.
I am having some family problems in which a family member is accusing me that I planned to murder the individual. So need to be away from the country for some time.
Peace
