Budget 2014: Indians balk at Rs 2 billion statue of Sardar Patel

India is country of utterly illogical cultural (and political ) practices.
Instead of constructive spending for betterment of community, country and poors , Indians spend money on :
Marriages - A 'tradition' of throwing money down the drains for pure show off.
Diwali - Multi million dollar pollution house, causing expensive medical issues like asthma, BP and diabetes. Unhealthy consumption of sweets and firecrackers.
Durga/Ganesh Puja/Melas - A huge huge waste of time, money, govt resources and at times human lifes.
Statues, Temples, Gurudwaras, Mosques - are Richest institutions in India! More are being built.

Couldn't agree more! Time to do away with all this.
One more:
Immersion of heavily painted/chemically smeared idols (bigger the better) in the rivers and ocean - thus polluting whatever is left.
Then, we blame politicians and system left, right, and center. We all are guilty.

As discussed in other thread, statues and bullet trains are not need of an hour. why not spend all this amount in cleaning of rivers, women safety, controlling corruption, developing government schools and hospitals? A lot can be improved on above by the money they will be spending in statues and bullet train. If Modi jee can fix the basic problems then he will surely be next PM too and then bullet train and statue can be build in his second term. People need someone to fix and clean system.
