@ Fido,
Rates are a bit high and it is outside Mississauga down town.
However looks like a safe and professional place.
The OP must know that he must steer clear of all Desi's wishing to rent him/her a room in their home or a basement which is shared by other people.
As the OP is from the Gulf, I am sure that he/she can afford Ports hotel.
All thebest.

I have visited this place and found it to be good.

Port Credit is a very nice upscale area.

There's a No Frills just next door .

Mississauga Transit is with in walking distance and you can do a to & fro to Square One in one fare....

The OP is coming for 2 weeks ... Might be hard for him to try something uncertain in the price he s looking for.

Thanks murali and fido.
Appreciate all your input. We will surely look at all the options you all have suggested. Though many of the places that we enquired are saying that they are full until november. But we will keep trying.

Do you have in relatives or contact's whose address you can give for the SIN.

After you apply for the SIN , it almost never comes to you within 2 weeks. they don't give it to you over the counter.

They will mail it to the addy you provide. So don't give the addy you are only going to be staying at for only 15 days, give some other fixed addy of relatives or friends.

OHIP , health card application is only after 90 days , so don't bother with that..do it on your second visit.

I would advise you to go for a G1 learners drivers license too. Don't bother with G2 or G driver's license either , 15 days too short for that.

But get a G1 license if you want, just with the written test , very good form of photo ID , so you don't have to carry your PP or PR card for ID, wherever you go.

You don't have to go for G1 , but can go for G2 or G directly , depending on which country and how much driving experience you have. check the MTO site for details. But for practical & technical reasons , G2 and G are not going to happen in 15 days..so just go for G1.

SIN card , OHIP card ( after 3 months ) and Drivers License ( G1, G2 or G) and you are pretty much set as far as major documents go.

Maybe you want to open a bank account here too..if you don't already have one. its all going to be over the counter , with instant debit cards and even cheque book ( in some cases ) in your hand.
They also have credit cards for new comers , with NO Canadian credit history, but CC can wait, just debit should be fine for now.

Short term rentals are almost impossible to find with big companies and apartments. so PG is a much better option..and cheaper.

Go for weekly transit passes , cheaper than daily fare or cash fare ,if you are going to travel a lot..during the week.

Check TTC , Mississauga Transit or Brampton transit depending on where you will live for transit fares.

Groceries are cheaper at these 4 stores :

No Frills
Frescho
Food Basics
Wal Mart

Shopping for clothes , shoes , winter wear etc is also cheaper at Wal Mart, but don't expect brand name stuff or designer wear..ha ha.

Coming from Dubai , you will find the malls here to be inferior than Dubai..ha ha..and selection also smaller.

In general expect to pay 13 % HST on most things you buy , but some groceries are tax exempt and some items are only taxed 5 % GST , but in general its going to be 13 %.

Expect chilly weather in October ..not cold ..no snow ..but chilly. Its going to be Fall weather for us, but for you its going to feel like winter..if this is the first time you are coming here, so bring reasonable jackets with you.

Don't sit indoors and travel a lot with public transit , will give you a hang of the city. Take transit maps and regular maps and go around the city , the whole day..after all your essential paper work is done.

Bring an unlocked cell phone with you and travel charger if voltage is different , and get a PREPAID Sim card for your cell phone.

Make sure its prepaid and not post paid. The cell phone companies here except WIND MOBILE are scam artist and rip offs. Companies like Rogers, Bell , Telus and their subsidiaries are a JOKE.

Expensive rates with these guys.

SIN process has changed . They do not issue cards now but just a number over the counter in the form of paper and advise you to memorize it as cards are no more issued.
