It is not where to settle, but how to settle.

1) Survey the rental market and fix a budget that will suit your pockets.
2) Get your qualifications accepted in the province that you want to settle down and work.
3) Try and locate your employers or even part time employers who will provide you with a job as a stop gap.
4) Find a suitable place, preferably close to to work. That will enable you to be with your family a little longer after the work hours.
5) Once you obtain a good permanent job, sort out the transportation needs.
6) Most of the schools in Ontario are pretty good, and if need be, you can always shift after your first lease gets over. Until such time you provide all the help to your child to stay on top of the class.
7) Always prepare your family for any emergencies and keep all of the lines of communications open between you and your spouse.

Good Luck.

EDIT: There were times when we had no portable phones to communicate. Now we have gotten out of it. Everyone or almost everyone has a Mobile phone (Cellular) and they are operable from most locations except the subways. May be they will conquer that areas soon.

So, if you have a kid in the school and the school wants to get in touch with one of the Parents for a very good reason, such as lock down, a question that needs a small clarification, such as an allergy that even you did not know that the child is experiencing, or for any other emergencies that occur and they want to call you and you might be just next door and you only have a phone on the wall, and not on you, then you might have to run back and forth and gasp for breath. So, in the current times, it will be an added advantage to get a second phone, even with a small number of minutes thrown in, to own and operate a Mobile Phone. Just a thought for the day.

Say you are a young couple here in Canada, and want to protect yourselves, for any kind of emergencies and if you feel that you do need insurance for all of this, then contact one of the Life Insurance Brokers and he can provide you both with a TERM LIFE Policy, and for anyone just 30 years old, can provide you with a $250,000 policy for just under $10 bucks a month and may be even lower rates for a lady. So, for $15 you can cover each other for a month. That will keep you in good stead. That will surely improve your financial health.
These policies are good for 10 years or longer. The premium stays the same for the duration. But please make and keep the payments on time, to provide you with the coverage. Good Luck.

FH.
