------------
THOSE WHO CAN GET THEIR CITIZENSHIP AS PER THE THREE YEAR RULE SHOULD GET THEIR CITIZENSHIP, as per the old rule.

I have responded to their FOUR year Rule and raised an objection and requested them to reconsider and permit those who entered into Canada prior to 19th July 2014 to obtain their Citizenship as per the old rule of THREE Year Residency.

Let me see what will take place after they see my letter. I hope to obtain a response to it within 30 days.

FH.

Lot of Middle East ( Gulf ) people will be screwed by this new rule..especially Pakis.

Pakis have Burqa clad wives here with kids collecting baby bonus & welfare , while husband is doing a job in Gulf tax free :(

Pakis kids go to school over here & become Canadian citizens & so does his wife..Paki comes once in a while to maintain his PR etc..this will complicate things for him :(

Thanks FH!

You're right Adam,

But the worst impacted are people who came on TFW and applied for PR under CEC. And the worst of all is the years spent before becoming PR won't be counted. I was in the country then why would you not count it.

If you intend on staying in Canada in the long term, it doesn't matter if you have to spend a few more years here before getting your citizenship.

The Government is doing the right thing by making it difficult for citizens of convenience to acquire Canadian citizenship and restore it's lost glory. As part of the new rules, the Government will even be adding another requirement called "Intent to Reside" requiring would-be citizens to show an intent to reside in Canada and not disappear after acquiring citizenship. Declaring an intent to reside and not living here later would be one of the many grounds to revoke citizenship.

My indian PP is getting expired next year.. wanted to get through the citizen process before that. already stayed here 6 years.. so no qs about intend to stay.

When I applied for PR the req was to have 2 years of experience later on they changed that to 1 year. otherwise I would have applied last year and would have got it by now.

Thanks for posting the updates Lemon925..
I am also interested to learn the requirements to continue maintaining PR status in Canada. According to old requirements, one needed to stay physically in Canada for 2 out of 5 years, so what will be new req?

My parents are out of country since they got their PR 2 years ago, so what will be the last date before which they must return back to Canada to maintain their PR status?
Thanks all for contributing.

As long as they just want to retain PR, I don't think the new rule impacts them. But if they want to get citizenship, they need to stay here 1460 days in last 6 years with min183 days in each year.

Above link has comparision of before and after. Just to be on safe side call CIC.
