Wise points and very valid too .. Thanks .

The poster on previous page who has recommended Thornhill - I guess then Thornhill also comes in the York region and hence the York school board.

Some one told me recently ~ Out of the 3 things - Good Schools & Neighborhood , Good sqft area and Desi population - if you want a house in affordable price , you will have to forego one ..... for eg.

a. Good Schools , Desi Population but less Sq ft : Mississauga
b. Desi Population , Good Sq ft but not so very good schools : Brampton
c. Good Schools , Good Sq ft area but No / Less Desi population : Burlington .

Which would be a better area overall in terms of schools and commuting to down town between Burlington & Aurora ?

Comparing Burlington with Aurora is little difficult but good thing is that we have known CD's residing in both areas who can give better insight . I will send you PM with the details of CD in Burlington who is well known .For Aurora you know who to contact .

Surprisingly - TORONTO is not recommended for any :)

Also - if desi population is a criteria for good school - how come Brampton has lower rating?
Personally, desi population was never a criteria for me - just good neighborhood, within reasonable commute from work... everything else falls into place automatically.

@Hiren ,

Toronto is more expensive that the areas mentioned and people prefer suburbs for raising family. Plus the above are just examples to show that you can get 2 of the 3 @ a relatively affordable price.

Likewise desi population is not assumed a criterion for good schools. The above 3 - Desi Population , Sq ft area in house and good schools are independent factors.

Not sure what I am writing here will matter to any of you but I 'll say it anyway.

It is important that you know your kid's potential before looking for high scoring ( only on rating scales) schools. For me Demography, comfort and motivation of the kid to go to school matters more than the score. My son who, as per the teachers ( I never believed them), was lagging in his previous school , when we changed location and went to another school , he is doing really well in his class, in studies as well as other activities. There is visible difference in his attitude towards schooling after the change.
For me , more than what the school scores matters is what your kid scores, no matter where.

Extremely valid points San Hugo , extremely valid points ...

Which are in line with my q regarding 7 & 9 points school and AG's response to that ...

I do agree that a child / student should feel comfortable in the schools so as to realize his / her full potential .... Which makes me ask (no racism intended ) - whether an Indian kid would feel comfortable in a predominant whites or Chinese school and the same the other way round ?

So it needs to be balanced for sure ..

I am slightly skeptical about putting an average kid in an above average graded school ..... Please understand me and then correct me ( I might need that here ) :)

I believe that your company will always have an effect on you ... if my kid is average and I put him/her in an above average school , chances are that he / she may only be bettered by her company ( obviously as long as he/she feels comfortable ) ..... Isn't that the reason why parents compete to put their kids in better known schools even in India ?

Like I said , I might need to be corrected here ... please do so .

You won't get to know your kids potential, until their potential is tested properly.
In my opinion if you know your kid is average or above average then you should try for better schools, there is possibility that changing school will raise their bar and they would perform even better. And if they are not able to handle it , you always have option to try not so good schools.

Top schools in Mississauga till grade 5 are
Kenollie,
Mineola,
Vista heights
Sheridan Park

All 4 schhols are in very good neighbourhood, but little expensive then rest of the mississauga.
