Thank you Raj for the heads up.

I don't know if this the same batch and product that also got nailed by the Health Canada, here in Canada. If it is, then, we can heave a sigh of relief and it has been withdrawn from the shelves a little while ago and it also could have been destroyed.

Just the same, I will keep my eyes peeled open and not go for it and find another substitute for a short while, till it all blows over

I thought the controversy has been swept under the carpet. Looks like UP FDA is filing a case in court. Also Madhuri Dixit has been given a notice to explain the grounds on which she claims the Atta noodles will make children healthy and happy as well as provide fibre equivalent to that of three rotis. Interesting!

`They will exhaust the topic till it will kill Maggi Noodles off the shelf and Nestle will change the process and call it by some other name and charge Twice teh charges for the same stuff.

The news that Nestle's Maggi noodles would be recalled from shops across the country spread like wildfire, sparking quite a few funny reactions on Twitter.

The Twitterati responded immediately to the Maggi recall buzz after food inspectors in Uttar Pradesh found dangerously high levels of lead in a particular batch of the popular brand.

Although food inspectors later denied recalling the brand and Nestle refuting charges of high content of lead and MSG in its product, the damage was already done.

Social media was flooded with people expressing emotions from disappointment to shock at the news.

Well it is an ongoing saga that will exhaust itself. How long.. Mmmm I am looking for cup of soups etc., and will soon find another substitute.

FH.

I have stopped taking Maggi very frequently since I experienced heart burn and acidity during the night on a couple of times after having Maggi Masala noodles 3-4 years back ...

Now its a pack every couple of months and that too with reduced taste maker ..

Latest news : Punjab , TN and KK also testing samples of Maggi .

Nestle India stock crashes following the latest brouhaha.

I remember distinctly more than 15 years ago (when I was in India) Maggi was in a soup over using carcinogenic Ajino-Moto and they claimed that they were not using it and renamed it in the ingredients as MSG or mono sodium glutamate ...

I guess its coming to hurt them big around a second time.

Ajino Moto, MSG, monosodium glutamate is all the same chemical manufactured in factory. Ajino Moto is company's name that manufactures MSG.

Now instead of using monosodium glutamate, they use hydrolyzed peanut protein which contains glutamate. This is a chemical process of boiling the peanuts in an acid and then neutralizing it with a base to free up the glutamates. Glutamate is a taste enhancer just like MSG. Basically this is what tricks your brain into thinking that the food is delicious when it may not be. MSG and other forms of glutamates have been used by soup and noodles manufacturers for a long time though. There is controversy surrounding MSG that it is cancer causing, damages brain, etc., but it has not been proven in a very scientific way.

Maggi should not have been labeling as "Contains No MSG" as it is false and deceptive labeling as it contains other forms of glutamate. It is clearly against Health Canada's labeling policy given at http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/fn-an/securit/addit/msg_qa-qr-eng.php" target="_blank">http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/fn-an/securit/addit/msg_qa-qr-eng.php</a>

Lead is a toxic heavy metal and its presence in high amount is very concerning.

Indian manufacturers are known to flout rules and there are health claims made by various products in India including Atta Noodles claiming they have fibre of 3 rotis. Maggi itself has a slogan in India "Taste bhi, Health bhi."

Horlicks, Boost, Complan, etc., also claim to be health drinks in India when they are actually inferior to a simple multivitamin pill. You will notice that they do not make any overt health claims when sold in Western countries, especially when it is an "Export Pack."

For most of food items running through a factory, processing it strips it off all nutrients and benefits. That is why you find all food manufacturers have to add back at least some of the vitamins lost artificially. Taste loss is compensated by taste enhancers and flavors, spoilage prevented by more chemicals, and colours added to make it more appealing.
