After UP & Delhi ... it is other states to ban Maggi .

I hope they ban it here in Canada too , if it is harmful.

Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir and Assam have also banned the sale of Maggi.

Tamil Nadu banned the manufacture, stocking and sale of Maggi and three other noodle brands — Wai Wai Xpress Noodles, Reliance Select Instant Noodles and Smith and Jones Chicken Masala Noodles — on Thursday for three months after samples of the products were found to contain unacceptable levels of lead.

Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir and Assam have banned the sale of Maggi, while the Gujarat government has banned it and another noodles brand — SK Foods — for violating food safety standards.

The Tamil Nadu Food Safety Department had sent samples of all four brands from across the State for testing. Of the 17 samples lifted from Chennai, the results of seven are out and six of them have been found to contain lead higher than the mandated limit of 2.5 parts per million, according to a press release.

Karnataka has also banned the Maggi. In fact the noodles are made near the city of Mysore in Karnataka. Nestle has been barred from mfg any more noodles till further orders. Dubai has also banned the imports of Maggi noodles.

Per Nestle, they spent Rs. 445 crores on ads and Rs. 19 crores on quality testing. Go figure! Amitabh does not come cheap.

As per my doc here in India, Maggi noodles has a gum that bonds the dry noodles together. This gum removes the top layer of the intestine over a period of time. From that day, we have stopped eating Maggi noodles. Not sure why and how we ate it in the past, though occasionally. Never late.

Its common in third world countries, anything will sell. No laws, no enforcement, corrupt babus/netas. The Nestle chief claimed that the MSG may have come from some other product that is added to the Maggi noodles. Yeah right! In the end it's the Maggi product. If they cant figure out that the products they get has MSG, then they should not be in the business.

Q - When are these getting banned in North America ??

I wonder why is it taking so long for the Authorities to act if the product is harmful .

Perhaps the Authorities here are not yet aware ...

This is so depressing ... One takes precaution while eating street side food in India but who would think that such a well branded product like Maggi which is built upon kids market segment would be so harmful .

I recall we were distributed free Maggi pack in schools when it was introduced circa 1983 !!!

If they can really ban this product , it might serve as a guiding direction to others of the same clan to correct themselves .

Maggi has guar gum. It is also present in lot of other products as it is commonly used as a thickener and binder.

Regarding MSG, they add hydrolyzed peanut protein which is the source of glutamate and showing up in tests. What Nestle India is saying that they do not add MSG directly.

If source of lead in Maggi is agricultural, like wheat flour or onion powder, it becomes a very serious issue then like are onions in India safe? Is wheat flour and everything made from it safe?

Not only Maggi, everything we eat for the sake of taste takes a toll on our health. Like the crispness we expect in samosas or vadas. Safest seemed to be fresh fruits and vegetables. Even there what organic farming people say is mind boggling.

Its like Salman khan testifying "I didn't drive the car in court"... A world class company doesn't have the basic testing tools, no joking...

But the interesting questions, where did Nestle touch the raw nerve.
