Buying a Steam Iron.

I bought a TFAL from Costco a month ago. Its a 1700W model. The steam is better than my old Panasonic 1000W model. I think it was around 50 dollars. I dont expect to use it for 10 years this time, maybe 5 the most. This thread taught me to look up the power rating and prompted me to respond.

Thanks SS & RC & NY_D ..Will surely update this thread ...

Had read a couple of interesting articles before I posted this thread .... they talk about sole plates, continuous steam pressure and also advanced irons having a separate steam component to avoid refills !!

Day 2 of research makes me add a couple of more irons to the original list .

Salient features that I am looking for now

Stainless Steel sole plate
Wattage => 1500 W
God rating on Walmart.ca or Walmart.com

In fact visiting walmart.com threw open more options which though not available @ walmart.ca are available in Canada .

Hamilton Beach

Shark

T-Fal 1700w

The final 4 - 2 T-Fal & 2 stainless steel sole plate .

b. T-Fal 1700w http://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/t-fal-ultraglide-easy-cord-iron/6000042285580

And the winners are :

a. Rowenta DW2070 1700w C$ 88 (incl tax & shipping through Amazon)

http://www.amazon.ca/gp/offer-listing/B004VRVBZG/ref=dp_olp_new_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=new

b. T-Fal 1700w C$80 (incl taxes)

http://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/t-fal-ultraglide-easy-cord-iron/6000042285580?cmpid=PPC_Google_Search_Dynamic-Search_EN_273344001_22244722521_c_1t1_100182107432681_None&gclid=CPqTm9TRyccCFQenaQodLDAB7w

c. Panasonic 1600w C$57 (incl taxes) .. available only @ Canada Computers or online @ Costco and Panasonic .

http://www.costco.ca/.product.100206127.html?cm_sp=RichRelevance-_-itempageVerticalRight-_-MultiItemViewCP&cm_vc=itempageVerticalRight|MultiItemViewCP

Though 2 models one each from Hamilton Beach and Shark had been shortlisted , their digital temp controls and the subsequent complaints of breaking down made me put them off the list.

I am tilting towards Panasonic for it having all that I need with a low price and the affections I have for the brand ever since we used Panasonic VCRs ... will finalize in coming week ... any comments / experiences .. welcome..

Fido do not settle for anything less than Oliso TG 1250 .
Its often on Sale in Costco road show . Once you go Oliso it will entirely change your ironing experience and you never be able to use any other product

Thanks AG !

$200/- is much top of my budget as if I go into that budget , I had rather buy an upgraded steaming system .

I am two minding between these 2

a. Panasonic 1600 w stainless steel plate available @ Canada Computers or online @ Costco.ca C$57 incl taxes and shipping.

http://www.panasonic.com/ca/consumer/home-appliances/garment-care/ni-e665s.html

b. T-fal 1700 w ceramic plate currently on discount @ Amazon C$ 60 incl taxes & shipping

http://www.amazon.ca/T-fal-FV4476-Ultraglide-Easycord-Steam/dp/B007R2ECGM

Dribbling b/w ceramic and stainless steel plate , my vote is going in favor of the Panasonic as reading some reviews of leakages in the T-fal model ...

After all the research , I can say that Costco keeps very good models and those who have bought their T-fal 1700w from there , have brought a good iron.

Just a regular iron for 20 bucks is enough.

You just keep some water in a conatainer and sprinkle it lightly on the clothes before ironing. It dries up due to the iron heat & you get a smooth crease. No need for some fancy steam mechanism in the iron, which breaks down more often than not anyways.

I am quite unsure if I paid 129 or 149 at Costco sometime back .
While I was buying this iron a lady brought her broken iron and Costco immediately replaced it .
Apparently it took 5 good years for this to breakdown and she could get a replacement with no questions asked . Not that I find this ethically right but definitely it was worth mentioning .

BTW people who are not aware Costco has a software in place to see if any member is over abusing return policy . Membership renewal can be denied by store Mngr on his discretion if the system raises red flag.
