Have you changed your eating habits or cooking habits after coming here ? Or have they remained the same as back home as in India ?

Do you tend to eat out more after coming here, especially stuff like fast food joints like KFC, McDonalds, Pizza, Tim Hortons etc , or its same , more or less than what you did in India .

So what are your food habits here ? Mostly Indian food, mostly Western food or a combination of both !

I think my food habits are a combination of BOTH. I think its almost 50-50 . Don't really eat out a lot, but even when I go grocery shopping and for food eaten at home, it will be a combination of both.

So it could be Dal, Chawal, Roti, Paratha, Chappati, Bhaji, Sabhji , Curries for lunch.

It could be pizza, pasta, garlic bread, Gora type sandwiches with cold cuts like sausages, salaami, burger, fries, chips , Canned Soup etc the next day. Maybe even Chinese like fried rice, noodles etc.

Definitely eating more roasted or BBQ type of Gora style chicken than Chicken curry, Biryani type.

Also here I have become more of a coffee drinker than tea ( chai ) drinker. India still doesn't really have a coffee culture and its mostly chai culture even though places like CCD, Starbucks are common in India now.

Have you become a non vegeterian after coming here ? Have you started eating beef, pork etc, which you might not have eaten in India before ?

I mostly have a combination of both :)

LOl Adam,
While in Canada, I used to eat South Indian food at home as well as takeaways (like Pak biriyani from Dundas -Hurontario & String hoppers from Newin centre). At home, I eat with hand and lick my plate too as the taste is too good.

I used to work at a Italian's office. So often had Pizza's and chicken wings. Though I used to crush and eat the bones at home, I had to eat dignifiedly at the office. There was not a single time that Pizza sauce did not fall on my white shirt while for the Italians, it did not fall. We also used to have wine and wiskey / cognac at office.

I have close contact with many IT companies in the GTA and heard about the food habits of Gora's. Most donot eat lunch where as some (it seems) used to bring can soups and heat it in the M/W and eat.

When I worked in a Romanian Gora's company at Kitchener, most Gora's and Gori's used to bring frozen pizza's ($ 1 ) and pasta's. Some used to bring sandwiches. However, they used to gorge at free food / company sponsered food.

I have never seen Gora's eat contendely at the office. Many eat just a fistful of food but have lots of coffee / iced tea / cool drinks (when they are free at the office).

To continue :
I used to have 2 nos. of Toonie Tuesday on Tuesdays at the KFC.
For one 3 years (2002-2005), My lunch was 2 Wendy's value beef burgers and 1 chilli ( It was $ 1.39+ tax then). Sometime at the Italian office, I used to go to Quizno's or Other specialized joints with Non Gora's and Non Desi's.

My office boos used to buy food and eat at the office account. He generally buys chicken wings / Chicken roast / salad plate for his lunch. They usually have extra's at the fride. Sometimes when I work late at the office, i just used to take their food and eat. Not that I steal but just to save time for me to go out and buy stuff and come back. Each time, I have to disable the alarm and go. So this is more easier.

In the Kitchener office, I saw an interesting fight at the office. It looks like one Gori bought some 10 pizza on deal and she stored it at the freezer. She used to heat and eat one every day. One day, 2 pizza's were missing. She immediately posted a note which asked the "Thief" to return the pizza back. Funny how they fight for a $ 1.

we are lover of Pizza. We stopped eating KFC and Popeyes (fried) stuff. After eating subway and Mcdonald during Disneyland vacation, we are done with it. We enjoy our food like dosa, Idli, puri bhaji, upma, poha for bf and ver/non veg, Roti and rice. We are enjoying BBQ more so oil consumption is less.

We make pasta, pancakes, cake, chicken bacon and sandwiches for the tiffin. We eat more Salad, soups, BBQ and fruits thn actual food nowadays. :)

TK toonie Tuesday at KFC is no longer for a toonie ( $ 2 ) , its now $ 2.99 and called Tuesday Special, no longer Toonie Tuesday :( , so its more like Threenie Tuesday :D

BTW any fast food place you go to if your bill is $ 4 or less you ONLY pay 5 % GST and NOT 13 % HST on it.

So if you and your wife are going there and each is buying $ 4 worth of fast food at KFC, Tim Hortons, McDonalds, Sub-Way, Burger King etc, then make 2 separate orders and 2 separate bills to save 8 % HST.

Otherwise if its one bill it will be $ 8 + 13 % HST :( , but if you split , it will be $ 4 + 5 % GST and $4 + 5% GST.

You will save 8 % HST on each bill

Cheap desis and Chinese will do that  , Goras are stupid and won't do that.

Cheap desi will buy something for him, then separate bill for his wife and then separate bill for his kids  . So 4 people from the same family are sitting in MCDonalds with 4 separtae bills of $ 4 or under and 4 separate order, but eating on the same table :D

We eat regular Indian food at home ..Kids also take the same.

Once a weekend , we eat out ... Indian restaurants or Hakka ..kids have also taken to it.

Pizza Pizza once a month on kids' insistence OR if no Indian restaurant available like when on trips.

Less adventurous in trying other cuisines though I have taken well to Mexican ( burritos / fajitas and stuff) as well as Arabic ( Hummus / Moutabbel / Zatar and all )

Of late have developed a fancy for a wonderful salad bar which actually provides wholesome and filling salads - ' Pumpernickels' ... Have visited once ... will go there agaiin !!
