HappyWoman 36,
I am helping 2 Architects in Toronto find a job. While they are searching for a job, they would like to work in BPO / job that you mentioned for $ 11 an hour, atleast till January 2016 (because major job decisions only take place in Jan.).

So please give me details of the same, so that I can pass it on to them.

Murali

we are placing directly in the companies now. (not thro employment agencies) so, tell them to contact us thro pm. This is in food manufacturing industries where work is not heavy.

Volunteers don't get paid but co-ops do .. There's a difference .

When you volunteer it is for positions upwards of survival job .. positions which pay 40K+ .

Survival jobs are also known as dead end jobs for a reason - if you stay in them , you lose the opportunity ,time & will to get into your main stream job .

Remember new immigrants bring $10 - $16K.

Instead of going for survival jobs for the first 3-4 months , I would advise immigrants to get into the job search mode on a high and put their 150% into it as once they enter the survival jobs , they would lose the time and wish to get back to their original areas of work and the gap and doing survival jobs will only hurt their profile later.

Once you have gone past the 3 month mark , by sure yes , join a survival job but keep on sending out resumes and attend interviews .

Another successful strategy can be ~ one spouse does survival jobs while the other one upgrades local education credential and when this spouse gets a job , the other one starts upgrading ... With in 2-3 years , good chances that they are both can be settled in their original professions .

I am prompted to ask this. Are you providing a referral and if it is free or you have a registered business which is an employment agency?

Job situation will always remain unstable, because lots of qualified immigrants enter Canada with very high hopes.
In fact those in jobs aren't too happy as the risk of losing a job is always there..

It's free...My husband takes thm to the company and introduce n next day, thy join. Till now, we hv helped people who land with us and stay with us as tenants for 3-4 mnths. Later on, thy bring family and move on. We hv helped our friends too but thy are with Canadian experience so thy get paid well. $20-22 (cash). Thy work 2-3 days in a week. Most of thm r doing 2 jobs. Technical/production people r working there since 15-35 yrs. Owner is good but pays less than market price. Majority r gujju and punjabi. With so many people losing jobs nowadays, such company is heavenly.

Another big scam in Canada.

Volunteers are made to do $ 1 Billion of free work in Canada. Mostly immigrants are forced into it.

If you are an Engineer or Doctor or MBA from India, they will not hire you as you don't have Canadian experience. Then they will tell you work and volunteer for free, not a penny will be paid, so that you can get Canadian experience and we will hire you after that.

The poor Indian engineer works for free, but he doesn't even get experience as he is made to do clerical and secretarial work like filing, answering phones etc. They get some low level work done ou of him for free, no pay. After 1 year when he asks for an engineer's job, they kick him out.
