"Advisory to all the OCI/PIO Card holders: Regarding Visa Sticker
Henceforth there will be No 'U' visa sticker pasted on the passports of OCI cardholders. OCI cardholders are advised to carry the OCI Booklet and the valid passport, which is mentioned in the OCI Booklet to travel to India.
(As regards reissue of OCI card under miscellaneous service, kindly visit the MHA OCI brochure (http://mha1.nic.in/pdfs/oci-brochure.pdf )
The PIO cardholders may, however, carry the valid passport which is endorsed on the PIO card for travel to India or the old passport which endorsed on PIO card along with the new passport."
What happened to all those getting new stickers once you step into 50s ?
And then how about kids who had been asked to get new sticker everytime we renew their passport.
Does this mean once youa are issued a OCI card / booklet, you don't need visit Indian consulate for the OCI business whether you turn 50 or your kids renew their passport. Basically the U sticker doesn't hold any value ? Am I right ?.

My interpretation is no U visa sticker, but the requirement of new OCI booklet still exists (for certain age groups).

To make it simple,
It is my assumption that,
1. Kids under 18 would still need to get new OCI booklet as their passports validity expires ie.., 3-5 years.
2. Adults passing 50, should visit and get a new booklet.
I also assume the process might remain same excepting the fee.
I have started calling them to confirm, I will share soon as I hear from three different officials at least.

My wife got her OCI last week. They did not affix any visa sticker in her passport.
Instead, there is a new line on last page of the OCI booklet which says "Life Time Visa".

So having said that there wont be stickers issued, the question here is what happens when the Canadian passport is renewed..The passport number is on the OCI card right? So when the passport is renewed the passport number would change? How would this new number get reflected on the OCI card? Is it necessary that the passport number on OCI card and one's valid passport number should match?
In that case, one should carry all 3 documents - OCI card, Canadian passport which is on the OCI card and the current & valid Canadian passport.
